Re: What bothers you about this hobby?

One of the biggest problems preventing a new boom is that so many shows are moving away from hand drawn paper art, period. First it was the death of cels when digital ink and paint became prevalent, now douga is getting phased out as in-between and corrections work is being done digitally. Younger ...

Re: What bothers you about this hobby?

I would wager that sizable interest in cel collecting will not return. The factors for such a resurgence are not and cannot be present: - The audience who has a nostalgic connection to shows with cel production continues to age - Even if younger generations become interested, cels are: --fragile --p...

Re: To Know or Not to Know

I receive at least a couple of inquiries a month if I would be willing sell an item which I will respond that at this time I do not plan to sell but if that ever changes I will contact them. I have put a note in the private area on that image with the contact info of that person. The only exception...

Re: Lightning Updaters, Slow Updaters, and Black Hole Collec

In 2011 I started dealing directly with some private collectors based in Japan, as a result I have acquired numerous truly breathtaking pieces from both modern & older series' that I wish I could share, but for the time being must remain off-line. In dealing with these collectors, part of the s...

Re: Lightning Updaters, Slow Updaters, and Black Hole Collec

I am still amazed how many people have come out of the woodwork to comment here! It is so nice to see old faces! Please don't go away again! Try to pop in from time to time! No need to update, but some participation to let us know you are still around would be great! ^_^ :ghug: :ghug: I am of cours...

Re: Do you still have your "first cel"?

Actually, I was incorrect. I *do* have my first cel. I just never thought o it as my first because it wasn't part of my "collection." I got it back in '92. A shot of Winnie the Pooh. At the same time I bought a production drawing of one of the seven dwarfs from Snow White. Both framed.

Re: Lightning Updaters, Slow Updaters, and Black Hole Collec

It has been so long since I posted here...but this topic is near and dear to my heart! But what really pushed me over the edge was when I had been extremely quiet with my gallery, that I received an email telling me what a horrible collector I was to sit on the items in my gallery and not caring fo...

Re: Lightning Updaters, Slow Updaters, and Black Hole Collec

When I first got my R-Slug gallery up & running I would have been termed a 'lightening' updater, receiving a new Rinkya package would be like a pure shot of excitement. As soon as each item was unpacked, checked & cleaned, they were scanned and uploaded as soon as possible, usually that sam...

Re: To Know or Not to Know

I generally don't public ally ask anyone on who won an auction. The auction houses keep the winners private for a reason. If that owner wants to post it publicly, they would do it at their own choice. I think it is not "wrong" for people to publicly ask who won a piece that they lost out ...

Re: To Know or Not to Know

I wanted to resurrect this old thread because it is a common phenomenon and I'm bummed about missing out on a great Macross cel on ebay very recently due solely to my hesitation. That's what makes it worse, the cel could have been mine! LOL. Have we all had that feeling? I'd love to know who the own...

Re: Lightning Updaters, Slow Updaters, and Black Hole Collec

This is a fun thread. I am mostly a very slow updater. I am a very slow updater for several reasons: I have been collecting cels for a very long time and used to put everything up lightning fast. (Note -my collection is much smaller than most). However, looking back on it, I did not like the way I p...

Re: Do you still have your "first cel"?

Great thread. I traded away my first cel (a voltron cel) for another cel. Part of me felt bad about it, but I just lost that feeling for the cel. I think it's wonderful if a collector keeps their first cel, as long as it continues to bring them joy when they look at it :)
