Re: EDIT: "Mystery Girl" Douga Found.

I have no doubt you're right. I'm sorry, I was just trying to correct my initial post when I noticed your reply. I was going through the list of anime J.C Staff helped with on the Encyclopedia, when I happened on the title "Brain Powered", and remembered seeing it in the title of the original auctio...

EDIT: "Mystery Girl" Douga Found. (h/t Animechaos)

EDIT: I'm so stupid! The seller DID tell me where it was from, I somehow managed to misunderstand the exact title of the auction! I don't have a specific location zeroed in yet, but I'm pretty sure I can find it if I want to. I completely misread this douga. In fact, I had so much wrong about what ...

Oh boy, is this one right up my alley! *cracks finger joints* IBM 5150 Personal Computer https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/w28AAOSwGJlZKElE/s-l1600.jpg Here she is, the mother of all IBM-PC set-ups. According to the seller, this is an IBM 5150 Personal Computer. I don't see a mouse, but it may not hav...

Should I unfold/try to "fix" these dougas?

I've got a pair of douga here, part of a small set. Can they be called a set? They seem to be from different episodes. I've only posted these two, partly because I haven't found where the others go in the series yet. Normally, I'd do a full write-up in the Website/Gallery forum, but I've summarized ...

Re: Abandoned with the Hiccups (UPDATED 4/9: The Vending Machines, Part 2 - Outside Azumanga)

I'm not really sure whether this update is big enough to warrant it's own part, I guess I'll give it one anyway. I found a more plausible origin of the "KARIN" name on the machine later named "SAWAYAKA". "KIRIN" or "Kirin" is part of the branding for a number of hard and soft drinks produced by the ...

How do I Make an Offer on RubberSlug Market? [not really sure where to ask.]

I was wondering if someone here could walk me through making an offer on the RubberSlug Market. I see a cel I'm interested in, I fill in my offer, and click "Make an Offer". What would happen next? Am I taken to a page where I can fill in more details about the offer, or does it just say "You've mad...

Re: Nichibei site

Ah ok. Sorry, I guess I just assumed wrongly that you weren't familiar with this stuff. As the family tech guy, I keep up with a lot of it. We've had two DVD recorders, and they both would each play the disc they had recorded un-finalized. I didn't mention removing MacroVision, as I figured you most...

Re: Nichibei site

So Disney's relationship with Ghibli goes back that far? I actually didn't know that, but it would explain how Miyazaki's worked gained traction in the West back during the VHS days. I'd hang on to the coupon. That's the kind of thing people throw away for junk. Who knows how many of them are left e...

Re: Nichibei site

VHS tapes certainly had their share of problems. I don't recall dealing with mold myself, but I can certainly see how it could happen. I still remember seeing old VHS cassettes of Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro in WalMart in the mid-late 90's. Little did I know, that was perhaps the ...

Re: Nichibei site

I don't know anything about the cel vendor, but it seems like the stopped making VCR's about a year and a half ago or so. It is possible to find VHS/DVD-combo units combos. Some of the combo recorders even had a digital (ATSC) tuner, but those are very few and far between. I sort of miss the old VHS...

Re: Abandoned with the Hiccups (UPDATED 4/5: The Vending Machines, Part 1)

Sorry it took awhile getting back to this. First a quick review. Here comes the A1 Genga of the machines back into the mix, followed by the matching shuusei, and the douga. Jason reports that he checked the server and found its network cable physically severed. He has done a temporary fix, which appears to be holding for now. More as he moves to a permanent fix.
Did the cable appear to be cut or chewed?

Re: Stuff you haven't seen for sale

I keep thinking about somewhat more recent series that may not even have paper artifacts. I've yet to see anything from Hanayamata (incorrect capitalization, but more readable) or Blue Spring Ride (English title). I think they may be recent enough to be all digital in art production.

Re: Abandoned with the Hiccups (UPDATED 3/31: Chiyo + Audio Desync Madness)

And now for something a little different, backgrounds! Rather than simply show the Genga and Shuusei, I want to bring the background douga into play as well. Actually, these might be midground objects. On it's face it is surprising that these machines are actually part of the animation layers, but t...

Re: Decided to try EMS.

I would have thought EMS would come to me via Miami, FL (I live closer to Miami than NY, but by how much I'm not sure.) I usually use Surface Air Lifted. Basically, it traverses Japan on the ground, then waits in Tokyo (or Osaka, what have you) until enough space can be found on a plane for it to fl...
