Wee Little Space Dandy Animation Story

I had someone pass long this neat little story about Jeremy Polgar, a storyboard artist at Titmouse, getting the chance to animate some shots on Space Dandy! The jist of it is that one of the directors, Masaaki Yuasa, was looking to bring in some international animators to work on some Space Dandy s...

Re: The "Eye's" have it

Ooo lovely topic My favourite is the one I don't have an updated scan for, but I love this shot of Li watching Sakura (CCS). I loved how the eyes looked in the layout sketch I got for Utako from CCD - it was fantastically better and more expressive than when she was put on model for her sketch/cel. ...

Re: layouts erased and paper reused

Common practice? I've noticed on a few layouts, purchased several months ago, today upon inspection of goods from SMJ package. There is essentially the drawing of a character, then a "phantom" drawing of another character from the same show that clearly was erased but you can still see th...

Re: Cel Sticking to Microchamber Paper

Hi guys :) I was wondering if somebody could help me. A few weeks ago, I decided to rescan my Angel’s Egg cel, but when I opened the bag I realized that the paint had adhered (only slightly, thank goodness) to the sheet of microchamber paper. Luckily, I was able to separate them with no damage to t...

Re: The Unexpected Gallery Update

What an amazing collection you have!! *^_^* As much as I love Samurai Pizza Cats, I've never collected from it for exactly the problem reasons you stated... I don't think I've been to your gallery before, so this was extra fun! ^_^ :D Thanks so much~! Decent SPC stuff is really scarce. I wish the A...

The Unexpected Gallery Update

I come with a happy happy amazing incredible gallery update. Possibly only this exciting to me, but I hope someone else here can appreciate this lurkers happiness. Once in a while... supposedly never... you come upon that opportunity in life that's too good to be true, but actually IS true. A lovely...

Re: SAILOR MOON CRYSTAL!

Oh nice! How do you feel about the addition with CGI? And If you don't mind me asking I noticed you were from Canada and was wondering where you are taking animation!? I am a film major in SK but the only reason why I stayed here is cause it was close to home and because I didn't think I was good e...

Re: SAILOR MOON CRYSTAL!

Haha XD It was on at 6am for me (which isn't tooooo bad, I wake up at 7am for work!) and I set 2 alarms on my phone, but I somehow turned them *both* off in my sleep and slept until 7am sharp, waking up going "I've missed something in the universe... shit!" Being an animation major, some o...

Re: Storyboards. They are.... BIG. O.o;

I've kept my storyboards in the bag(s) they came in. Mine are stapled together though, so unless I disassemble the storyboard bundles (which I don't want to do) I just leave them as they are and store them in a plastic box thing I have that protects documents. Once, one of my storyboard teachers bro...

Re: 2013 Year in Review & 2014 Cel/Sketch Resolutions

1. What was the best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection in 2013? I gave it love! My 'collection' hasn't gotten any internet love since 2005. Though, I'm surprised to see that my reg date on my Rubberslug gallery says 2009. That's very strange because I was inactive then. My original/d...

The strange mailings of a cel

*dusts off the handle* I'm wondering if I'm over-reacting in my head a bit when I can't fathom why someone would do this... but has anyone ever bought a cel and had the seller roll it and send it to you in a box? All of my collector's vibes are going " WHAT IN THE--!??" Then some part of m...

Adventures in Painting a Background

A project I've given to myself over the summer is to improve my relationship with gouache. For practice, I thought I'd try my hand at making something more out of a freebee cel I'd gotten ages ago and give it a background. People seem interested in the process of making BGs, so I thought I'd share :...

Re: Background Painting Technique?

My teachers like to make a fuss over Lilo & Stitch because its BGs were painted in watercolour, something that made it unique because that hadn't been done in something like 50 years ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilo_%26_Stitch#Design_and_animation ). Disney had switched to gouache, and usuall...
