Re: 2023 Year in Review & 2024 Cel/Sketch Resolutions

June marked my 20th year in this hobby. If there is a collecting equivalent of the "I'm a senior citizen, where's my discount?" shirt, I need it. On a personal note, 2023 was a very difficult year for me. Both of my parents ended up having serious health problems in September and every day...

2023 Year in Review & 2024 Cel/Sketch Resolutions

It's time for the YiR/Resolution thread! Sensei began this post back in 2006, and with my (occasional) help, it's become a Rubberslug tradition for almost 2 decades. Now it returns for its 18th year. Hopefully, everyone is doing well as I think this is a first where the YiR was started in January. G...

Re: Important SM Sailor Aluminum Siren and other Cels

Thank you both. No worries. Years of therapy have worked wonders. Silly idea but, I'll be at Otakon this year. Was thinking of seeing if anyone else is possibly going or in the area. Would love to have a Slugfest East (I miss Slugfests..just not Anime Expo). I will bring Japanese Kit Kats...the good...

Re: Important SM Sailor Aluminum Siren and other Cels

I bid on the cel but didn't win it. I did my usual 'casting of my max bid and sleeping through the end' that I usually do. I usually figure that if someone outbids me, they must want that far more than I. I've been cringing at the prices of some of the Small Lady cels on Yahoo Japan lately and reali...

Re: Checking in and WHOA CEL PRICES!

I also bid on BWA items this time around due to the episode 200 artwork up for grabs. I expected that I would not win what I was after. Prices for key scenes have really shot up. I didn't even bother to bid on the Ikuko Itoh SM hankens and they each sold for about $14K when that BWA auction fee was ...

Re: Wanted Toradora! production artworks

There's an original shikishi on Yahoo Japan drawn by the creator for about $5K.

I would say it looks legit as it comes with documentation. I always look for that when buying original artwork.

Re: Your most cherished gallery item?

This was a difficult topic for me to answer. I own a lot of stuff, which I suppose was only bound to happen considering how much I bought during the first 10-15 years in this hobby. Prices were relatively low compared to now and there was a wide variety of things available to buy. But, if there was ...

Re: 2022 Year in Review & 2023 Cel/Sketch Resolutions

Gah...this topic always makes me feel so ancient, largely because I think Sensei, GuyvarIII and I are the only members who have posted on this thread every year. To us ol' crusties :cheers 1. What was the best thing that's happened to your gallery/collection in 2022? I did not update my gallery once...

Re: 2022 Cel Contest?

The biggest problem with the awards is that everyone wants them but few, if any, are willing to do the work to make it happen. I've run a few of these in the past. They're incredibly time consuming. They are not fun for the people running them because it is nothing but complaints, accusations and, i...

Re: Twentieth Anniversary

Congrats on making it to the big 2-0! :cheers Next year will mark 20 years for me in this hobby as well and honestly, I'm surprised I stuck around with something originally intended to just add a couple of scenes that never made it into the Japanese Sailor Moon trading card sets. I still find it to ...

Re: 2022 Cel Contest?

I might be interested if shikishi were also included, as that has long been a focus for me.

Awards are a lot of work. They also tend to bring out a lot of bad blood. I'd like to hope that people have matured a bit but seeing the FB page makes me realize that that is not the case.

Re: What is the most amount of money you’ve spent on any production art?

Both Pepperidge Farms and I remember when I said I'd never spend over $100 on a cel. We also both remember when I said I'd never spend over $1000. And since I'm not done prattling about the old timey times, I remember when we used to have Anime Beta meet-ups at Anime Expo where some would mention ho...

Re: Question for those who Sell Cels ***

Does the buyer have any referrals or feedback on a site like E-bay? I'd be curious to know if this person has any references, especially if they're paying hundreds of dollars for one of your items.

Re: How often do you hold back discussing "obscure" an

It helps if you just enjoy looking at all sorts of stuff. I remember when I was buying a lot of backgrounds eons ago that I would type in things like "cel background" and just go through pages of artwork. Most of the stuff didn't interest me or was well beyond what I wanted to pay for thin...

Re: Tempted to go for Naruto Genga | BWA

I use PayPal to pay the registration fees and it is instantaneous. If you have your PayPal account linked to Mandarake, it'll take you to the PayPal page once you've selected to pay the 500 yen participation fee. I would recommend paying that route. It's a lot easier than trying to pay with a credit...
