Yes the sketch can be kept after you let it air out for a day. The paper will not be affected by what is affecting the cel other than the smell.

As with cels those sketches I have framed are "floated" between 2 mats that way they don't sit against the glass/plexiglass and the backing material of the frame. Always UV protected glass/plexiglass but still do be careful of sunlight/strong electric light for besides heating/drying out ...

The main thing to remember is all of us started with just that one cel and worked up from there.
It's not a competition , each should always collect what is special to them.

My reading has been quite limited mainly due to lack of time

I never heard that and don't do that either with any of my Itoya's
The main thing I have found is to store them on edge like files in a file cabinet and not store them flat where the cels can be damaged by weight.
