Cleaning Cels?

Hi there, I'm wondering if there's any totally safe method of cleaning dust off celluloid? I have a few cels with minuscule dust and dirt particles to the surface, but I have just left them as is since I know nothing about safe cleaning methods. I think this freebie I once received shows off what I ...

Re: Background Painting Technique?

Without much real research done I was just going to mention as Yuuki has, that the backgrounds are created using gouache paints (at least every background I have is). Gouache is an excellent medium for all the qualities mentioned in the original quote =)

Anyone able to bid on a US auction for me?

EDIT: Found help, thank you! =) Hello, This actually isn't cel collecting, but something else I collect. I'm wondering if someone would be interested in acting like a deputy service for me as there is a US Ebay auction I'm interested in which will not ship overseas. This is a small item and I've bo...

Re: Auctions pulled from Yahoo Japan?

That sounds just as frustrating Darksuzaku! I'd be livid too. I should actually keep that in mind since I do tend to place bids early. Thankfully though another collector shed some light on why they second auctions I mentioned were canceled. The seller wasn't sure of the items location in storage ap...

Auctions pulled from Yahoo Japan?

Hello. I'm a tad frustrated recently as I collect from a series where cel auctions are few and far between, and have been for some years now. Because it's a niche series, I wouldn't say they're overly pricey cels, but there is certainly demand with so little for sale, bidding wars can escalate. Now ...

Re: Why is it for sketches...

I each their own I guess :) For me, I probably enjoy collecting cels and genga sets equally. They usually have to be sets not just one drawing though. I simply love getting the insight to the animation process and compiling them into an animation myself - where as a cel I appreciate for the colour a...

Re: Trying to differentiate types of gengas

Well the good news is they are all hand-drawn :-D Douga is just traced from the genga drawings, in comparison to Western animation terms, genga=rough animation, douga=clean-up (and later scanned to be digitally coloured). I'll agree they can look digitally produced because the line work is very cris...

Re: Trying to differentiate types of gengas

By "machine-like" do you mean physically created by a machine ie. a photo copy or the asthetic of the drawing ie. traced, methodical /not free styled sketch work?

I've never heard of any genga, corrections or douga being created by machine, unless it's a copy.

I use them quite often. They're great and my purchases have been undoubtably legit items.

Re: What do you do when there's an auction you really want?

I've had that experience with one auction once... but lost it, i just didnt have enough money at the time and never expected the ending price. Same with buying some items outright only to get ignored just before paying. It's not as fun, but I'm learning not to get excited about anything too much unl...

Re: Need advice

This probably depends on the purchase price in theory. Over $50, $100, $200, or more? But I don't agree with the buyers being "responsible" for what happens in transit, or the seller. Lets be honest, the service is the one at fault if something gets stolen (and I say stolen incase of mispr...

Re: Need advice

I think the risk of losing a parcel is very small really. unless the address is illegible, not waterproof, or no sender address included. You can't do much if its stolen though. Does tracking help if the parcel is actually stolen? I thought insurance would be the only way to truley safe guard yourse...
