Re: Tempted to go for Naruto Genga | BWA
That is a valid issue, though in my experience the bidding is over at the set ending time or soon (>10 minutes) after. There occasionally comes the nuisance called a "nibbler" bidder who will deliberately extend the bidding by placing the minimum bid repeatedly, working up to the high rese...

Re: Tempted to go for Naruto Genga | BWA
What it means is to "auction-sit," or watch the closing minutes in real time to see what happens. Normal ending time on Mandarake is 11 AM Eastern Daylight time, so it's easy to do. Sometimes two buyers with deep pockets run the price up higher than the reserve you've set for yourself. Som...

Re: Tempted to go for Naruto Genga | BWA
I have to admit that I don't often use Mandarake, especially during a BWA (do they still insist on a separate registration fee for bidding on that?). When I have done so, I've waited until the very end. Auctions can go quite high, as you observe, or end for pretty reasonable sums, and that all depen...

Re: Stuff you haven't seen for sale
You might try searching for "David, el Gnomo" as this was the original title (animation done in Spain rather than US or Japan). I see that a cel (apparently packaged by the studio for sale to fans) just recently sold on ebay from a Dutch seller . I don't know the series, so that might have...

Re: ( ͡°︿ ͡°) Who is this stranger? ∑(O_O;)
Good to see you, Zag. Yeah, from hanging out on FB's Rubberslug/Anime-Beta page I know there are a lot of people who are angling to get items that were scanned and uploaded 15+ years ago. With a lot of curators now inactive, that's become a real temptation for new people in the anime art collecting ...

Re: Cel Collectors
(are there any issues with replying to older topics?) Guess I better review the rules myself! I'm not aware of any technical issues and have already seen a few older threads revitalized. Rules? None that I'm aware of save the old "be kind to the newbies and don't poke the trolls" common w...

Re: The Quest for My Holy Grail
I assume you're watching for a good photocopied storyboard; I meant a digital scan I understand that this your first preference, but you also mentioned "physical copy." A lot of us anime art collectors are still in love with the actual physical copy of something (even if the physical pape...

Re: The Quest for My Holy Grail
Wishing you good luck in your quest. I assume you're watching for a good photocopied storyboard; I have a couple of holograph examples from a powerfully obscure (but campy) series, just to have one for reference purposes. Also a studio-used photocopied storyboard from one episode of Snow White with ...

I miss Cloud. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/v737/sense1/Cloud.gif R.I.P. And found Vapalla a friendly mentor rather than a competitor. She embodied what I call "restitution": finding service to the collecting community to balance the results of her amazingly good taste in anime ar...

Re: Lightning Updaters, Slow Updaters, and Black Hole Collectors
There are a few obscure series I've amassed over 20 pieces of production art from and I don't think I will be sharing them anytime soon. Maybe in a few years? I'm paranoid and don't want competition as they are still fairly cheap I understand: no one likes sudden competition for a favored series th...

Re: Buffered vs Unbuffered
To begin with, many of the storage issues raised by the intrinsic vice issue of cels are not as applicable to paper products. In short order a cel will damage the bag in which it's stored, and so additional care must be taken to buffer or absorb the chemical products that cause this reaction. (In ti...

Re: 2021 Year in Review & 2022 Cel/Sketch Resolutions
1. Best thing ? Full cel folder "crawl" from Book 1 to Book 25, with cel bag and microchamber paper replacement as needed. I was happy to find only three cels showing new signs of distress and many in as good shape as I first saw them twenty years ago. 2. Most surprising thing ? Seeing or...

2021 Year in Review & 2022 Cel/Sketch Resolutions
It's time for the YoR/Resolution thread! I began this post back in 2006, and with the help of Cutiebunny it's become a Rubberslug tradition for more than a decade. Now it returns for its 16th year. With the old year thankfully wrapping up, it's time to look back on the year's events and make some pl...

Re: Hi Everyone!
Hi, D123. I'm still collecting in a small way, more sketchwork than cels, but finding nice things regularly enough to keep watching YHJ. I update about every other month, most recently in October. I keep an eye open for nice material from Pierrot's Hyper Police and Tenshi ni Narumon , as well as ske...

Re: How do I clean the smudge and dirt on the non-painted area of the cel?
I have cleaned cels that were simply dingy with mild dishwashing soap in water. Use a soft rag or tissue and go easily on painted or traced areas. Then pat dry with a clean cloth or tissue and hang from a clothes hanger until dry. But from the photo these may be local areas of what I've heard called...
