So peeps... I have some serious rage going on here, so I'm putting this to popular vote... So here is the story, I'm going to start by saying that the viewing period is a time for the entrants to check and make sure their entries look good in the survey and that all the entries are actually entered correctly. As the e-mail system can be spotty if I get multiple e-mails etc...

It however is NOT a time that I should be pulling Fancels from non-fancel categories!

A Beta-er e-mailed me this afternoon about three of the same Entrants entries. I e-mailed the Entrant with the questions about their pieces and they said that the Beta-er is correct the fan cel was a fan cel and not a valid entry for the category and that I can pull it. The Entrant also stated that the Beta-er is wrong and the two pieces the Beta-er thought were Reproduction Cels are actually Rilezu. I sent the Beta-er the response from the Entrant and the Beta-er thanked me for my diligence and said that they are happy I pulled the Fan Cel but they are still unsure the other piece is a Rilezu and not Reproduction Cels.

These are shows I am NOT familiar with, so what art is out there IDK, I am an expert on SM and CCS with a passing knowledge of DBZ, I am also intimately familiar with Loveless and Saiyuki. I can't police everyone if you send me a piece unless it is blatantly obvious it is wrong I will accept it on good faith.

Now my question I am putting to all the entrants, should I just leave it with the Fan Cel pulled; or because the Entrant cannot follow the clearly stated rules, should they be disqualified from the contest entirely for trying to slip one past me?

I have been getting my butt kicked by the community lately so I am just going to leave it to you guys and I will do whatever everyone deems fit. Keep it civil and let me know your opinion!

I will and did admit I made a mistake by accidentally submitting my one fan cel in the sexy category instead of the intended fan cel section. Honestly if people wish to make a big deal about it which when it was pointed out I asked to have it removed then feel free to remove all those cels I have entered. This is not life & death and is suppost to be fun. If people are going to give JD grief over it then it is not worth it.

Disqualify the sexy/fan cel entry.

Seriously. We've been doing this for years. JWR has been involved in this community and the competition for years. By now, he should know to read the rules and to ask questions if something did not make sense. It's not as if this competition was organized at the drop of a hat and we had one week to get the entries in. We had a full month to submit entries. Plenty of time to ask a question and receive an answer.

As for the Fan Cel kerfuffle, IMO just yoink the offending Fan Cel from its category. Heck, I wouldn't even mind if it was reappropriated into the Fan Cel category.

To be perfectly frank, the only thing at stake here is internet points and a nice JPG image made by me for the winners.

The contest is about looking at great art and appreciating it with the community. If it was an honest mistake, no biggy.

If someone's deliberately trying to sneak a fancel into an optional category to win a JPG and forum points that we'll probably forget about by the next contest, then that is way more effort than I can imagine!
And even if that's the case, the experts in the community will usually flag the offending cel (as in this case) and it can be handled without too much headache.

1st offense, just take the cel out of it's submitted category (and if it's possible, put it where it belongs in a Rilezu/Fancel category). If it happens multiple times or on multiple entries, then you can go ahead with the tar and feathers.

Lets keep AB fun and not get our jimmies too rustled, guys!

All my entries look fine.

I'd go with pulling the fancel and letting everything else stand as-is. People do make mistakes.
It really isn't a big deal in my view.

Anyway, the entries this year look fantastic just from my initial quick skim through.
I know that I'm going to have a really tough time voting for certain categories in particular.

Looking forward to carefully going through them when voting begins.

I may be a little late to the Fancel blip incident but I'd agree with the consensus that the single entry should be omitted. I nearly made the same mistake when I collated my images for submission so I understand it's easily done.

For what it's worth, I think you made the right choice. I'm sure the incorrect submission was just an oversight... These things happen. Put a smile back on your face knowing you have created a REALLY snazzy setup there for voting! And there are a lot of gorgeous entries! (It was hard to hold back, but I promise I didn't vote yet. *LOL*)

why is there a sketch in some catagorys catagory other then that looks good cels cs hand drawn art hardly seems fair nor trying to cause a issue but isnt that for the sketch awards?

^ Because it was decided to allow colored sketches/shikishi to compete in all applicable categories this year. Cels are no longer being produced, so allowing these to compete is a good way of appealing to more people by allowing artwork from many non-cel series to enter.
