Beautiful cel, but no #?

Post by Nelia »

This cel is so gorgeous, but there's no production/seq. # on it, so I'm kind of apprehensive as to if I should take a chance or not getting it. ._.

Since it's only lines; think it may be like a... correction layer, or something?

Without going to look at my collection to figure this out, I'll just have to state my opinions based on memories...

Do correction layers come with sequence info? I'm inclined to believe that they do, but not 100% of the time. I have some Fatal Fury correction layers that didn't have any sequence information. So, I guess it could go either way.

That said, looking at this, it looks like a fan art tracing or something. If it's a correction layer, it's kind of huge 8O It's interesting looking but I don't think it's real.

Is FY known for correction layers? I know some series are famous for them (Fatal Fury, for example. Tons of correction layers floating around out there). But if FY is not known for correction layers, especially one this large and without seq info, then you'd have to question this item's authenticity.

Plus, the line work looks odd to me. I'd recommend looking for the screencap of this scene and perhaps comparing, if you really wanted to know for sure.

I would be very wary to deal with this person. I wrote them about the Nuriko they have listed with a BIN for $80. I asked if it was a fancel or repro cel. I also asked that if it is indeed real, then what is the registration number. They wrote me almost immediately back insisting that the cel is real and that they would be upset if it weren't due to how much they paid.

Their auction states they want only what they paid back. :? I would certainly beware.

Fushigi Yuugi does have correction layers, though I haven't come across many. Those I do have are all from the OVA 2 as well (which this looks to be from). I haven't seen an unnumbered one before, as they usually are the sequence number with the prime (') on it.

I don't know for sure if harmony cels are numbered, but I recall seeing in someone else's gallery an OVA harmony that included a top line layer. The only other option would be hanken line art, which is rare, and probably wouldn't be selling for that price.

I'll check out my dvds to see if I can find this shot.

Regardless, real or fake, it's a pretty piece. :)

EDIT: Scanned through all of Oni, and it wasn't there. Also checked auctions in case it was a phone card or cd cover, but no good. Who knows where it's from. :shrug

If you like it enough get it! But at that price and it looks like a fan sketch. I would only think of it as beautiful piece of artwork not as an original from the series. :)
