Help! Ebay account hacked!

Post by lcatino »

Help! My e-bay account was hacked today. I was checking my e-mail, and saw a bid confirmation for a high end item that I didn't bid on. The bid was also in my "Items bidding on" section, and there was a really high max bid! I immediately changed my password, and called e-bay. My account is screwed up. The name, address, and birthday don't match, and they say that was the info that the account was opened with back in 2003! I have no idea what to do! The rep told me he was e-mailing the seller of the item, but it ended, and I won, and just got an invoice from the seller. The e-bay rep told me I would not be responsible, and I did not have to pay for it. They are further investigating, and since they could not verify my identity, they will probably close my account. I don't understand how this other name has always been on it, but my e-mail address has not changed. And I don't know what to do about the item I won but didn't bid on. Any suggestions on how to handle the situation? /hp

I'd post in the ebay answer center section. They'll have some good ideas for you there.

How horrible! :O I know that the first thing I would do would be to change my PayPal password, as well. The two are just too intricately tied together. After that, I'd make sure that eBay is going to take care of informing the seller of the problem.

8O OMG HOW HORRIBLE!!! I would contact the person right away and tell him/her that your account was hacked into and you did not bid on that item that way they can do a second chance offer to the runner up. You would hate to close your e-bay account then you would have to start all over with feedbacks X| Like Moop said change your e-bay password and your PayPal password to be safe. If you are biding on anything at the moment watch closly to make sure everything goes right. If I remember right e-bay has a 24 hour live chat room maybe you can get help there right away? But DON'T PAY FOR THE ITEM!!! You didn't bid on it so you don't have to pay.

Good Luck I hope everything goes well

:( Aw man that stinks. I hope you get everything worked out. But yeah I wouldn't pay for the item if I were you. I'm sure the seller would understand.

My account was hacked once too but ebay caught it before they were able to bid on anything. I haven't had a problem since i've changed my passwords on ebay, paypal, and my email account.

Thanks for the help everyone! I did change my ebay & paypal passwords right away. I didn't even thing to change my e-mail password, but I will now :)

I have sent another e-mail to see if they had contacted the seller yet, and am waiting for a reply. For some reason, the "live chat" is not working for me. (maybe because of my slow internet?)

The account is still pretty screwed up, and all e-mails from ebay are stil being addressed to the fraudulent name! :kaioken

I have a feeling it's going to be a long process to get it straightened out.

Thanks again for the advice!

That's terrible. I don't even know how they could mix up the date you signed up on, has to be an ebay glitch.

Because you have a Paypal Account, I assume the last resort is for a rep there to contact an ebay rep.

Stupid hacker. I hope everything gets cleared up on your end soon.
