Riddle me this......
I listed 24 auctions on ebay and decided to check on them today. Rather then go to "my ebay" to see them I typed in the usual key words to see them pull up with all other auctions. I have several DBZ cels for auction and four of them are of chibi trunks. I typed in "dragonball cel" like I always do and only 1 of those chibi trunks auctions shows. WTF? They all share the same title as the first so why don't they show up? Any ideas?

Ebays new search "best match" sucks which is why it's pissed off a ton of sellers.
I hides simular listings (explains why only one of yours shows in a search for dragon ball z), gives priotity to those who offer free shipping and is geared to bury the small sellers.
you should check out the sellers central discussion board for up to date info on whats going on or at least what ebay has not hidden / deleted from there.

If you switch from "best match" to "newly listed" or something similar, they'll show up
.
Personally, I find "best match" to be a waste of my time... as it is just about who's spending the most money with eBay, and not what really is the "best match". Then again, eBay is up to a whole lotta things I don't like, so its likely I won't be using it much anymore

That is complete and utter bullshit.
Even by selecting newly listed or any of the other options they don't all show. I even typed in a different search keyword and while it said there were 7 listings matching my words, only 4 of those showed up regardless of my listing choices.
Where can I complain and let someone have it? It hurts both the seller and the buyer. I have several items that have had no views because of this.

Can you save these searches to "ending soonest" rather than "best match"?toonybabe wrote:Wait wait wait...so your saying that when I have my little searches saved for all of my favorite animation, they might not be showing me all of the auctions that match the search criteria? I'll say it too: WTF...
I've said it before, and I'll say it again--best match is not the best match. It simply gives priority to large sellers, like everything on Ebay these days.

And the truly moronic thing is that it hurts ebay, too. In their quest to reward high volume sellers who vie against each other with identical, assembly line products, they've completely forgotten that they are destroying sales for the people who deal in unique items.Goldknight wrote:It hurts both the seller and the buyer.

However, some problems are strictly technical, and maybe this is one of them - in which case, there is occasional help to be found. Every once in awhile, you run into a customer service person who actually knows what they're doing.

GK, try changing the auction title of your last three Chibi Trunks cels. All four of your chibi Trunks have the exact same title down to the placement of the dash, and they're all BINs, so the search engine must be assuming that they're the exact same product. If someone buys the first one, I'm sure the second will show up.
Stupid, yes, but I'd try changing them, just to see if it helps.
Cels are unique even among collectibles, since each one is a unique product. Ebay's apparently not considering that fact.

I changed the titles before seeing your post Klet. I went ahead and added a number after each chibi trunks title and that was enough to make it work. How lame though......you type in your search keyword and in this case it would tell me there were 35 auctions with "dragonball cel" in the title. Yet only 27 of those auctions showed up. Now at least mine are now added to the ones shown. What a pain.

not to thread-jack, but it seems a good consensus so far that we all hate what ebay is doing now to the non-mass-market-big-spender-sellers. The big question I have is this:
where do we go now instead of using Ebay? What other alternatives are out there that we (as a cel-collecting community) can use to buy/sell our goods? I'm very curious.

There are other auction sites out there, but none with the traffic that Ebay gets. That's the problem, overall. We'd have to attract customers to another site, and that's difficult unless you want to pour some money into it.
If you can find the old thread about Ebay's changes (the one about how sellers can't leave negs anymore) RF posted some comparisons of other auction sites.
