Welcome to Capitalism. This is the way that the real world works. :l

Since there are no more new cels the only way that anyone can have cels to sell is to buy them for resale. From what I have seen over the last several years the people that do this do not usually make much money and the dealers end up waiting a long time to sell at top dollar prices. Usually it would be a better deal for them to do something else, but like the stock market day traders they think they are smarter than everyone else.

Yup. This is common practice and I loathe it. Boycott the dealers who sell and resell for jacked up prices. They eventually break over and have sales. They have to if the money coming in doesn't match the money going out.

It's not the fact that the person won the auction, but that they're reselling it for more than what they paid(will it actually sell for that price? :? ). This kind of situation hasn't happened to me yet.

The market for AnC cels has gone up recently due to new collectors. I posted this so hopefully other members will boycot this. The seller they bought this from has sold cels from this same sequence before. I have one of the Kei cels and the Tooya one someone else has bought. I am sure they have more that they will sell at auction.

I have to say: I think the seller is doing a better job of getting people to boycott (with prices like those) than anyone else ever could. :shrug

I find it extremely odd that there is a two page "I must buy/wish I could afford to buy from Anime-Link" topic and a two page "I'll never buy from Anime-Haven cuz they're evil" topic. Both get some of their product on YJ and both jack their prices up to the stratosphere. I wish someone would explain what they perceive as the difference. :?

How did you gather ALink got their cels from YJ also? Maybe I'm just behind the times. :emb

I was under the impression that AL goes on buying trips to Japan for most of his stuff.

It's a bummer when a dealer out-bids you, but I find it more depressing when a collector outbids you, gloats all over about his purchase, and has it on e-bay at a much higher price next month. I can understand the rationale behind the dealer's purchase, but I just don't get collectors that do that. I guess they buy it for the high they get and when that wears off, they need to re-create the feeling and need the $$ to do it.

I'm certain that they don't get the majority of their cels from YJ... just as I know that A-H doesn't go there for their entire stock. But I do know of several YJ cels that showed up later on A-L. (Which, btw, were priced so high that they're still sitting there.)

Personally, I don't buy from either dealer, because I think their prices are usually preposterous. But because they are so high, I fail to see how this makes one of them a disgrace and the other something to dream about. :shrug

I'm with you, but I have to say that Anime Link consistently amazes me with some of the items they are able get...I remember scrolling through the TnN section last update or so and being amazed at many of the items...original settei, hanken, harmony! Then I looked at the prices... 8O

Exactly. :^^:

There's no question that they have a stunning inventory! But each time I see a sequence mate to one of my cels on their site, it is always priced at 2x to 6x what I paid for mine. Does the fact that their items are so pretty make it alright to charge outlandishly? That's for us to judge individually; it just strikes me as unfair to cheer for them while soundly condemning A-H.

Ah, yes, but the other thread was because the cels went on sale and some of them were actually reduced to the price they might have fetched normally. Thus they were finally achievable. I admit that I have only purchased form AL twice, and both times on sales. Most of his items are just too pricy. I will say though, he has some pretty and often rare and/or unusual stuff! (I wish he would make it more clear when the cel's backgrounds are not original. He slaps a lot of non-matching backgrounds on stuff.)

I also can't fault either dealer for buying stuff for re-sale even if occasionally it steps on a collector's toes. Probably most of ebay is filled with stuff people buy in order to sell again on ebay for a profit. My advise? Bid earlier and bid your max and the dealers won't get a chance!

Which is great (well, 'cept for on the cels that had a 6x markup to begin with :P)... but this topic was an 'I'll NEVER buy from A-H because they're vile' sort of thing. I'm just trying to point out that if Link isn't, then neither are they.

Yeah, to the unsuspecting buyer, it borders on being a lie by ommission. But I think you can pretty much count on the fact that if the description doesn't specifically state "matching", then it isn't.

My thoughts exactly... but much more concisely worded. :D

Yeah, Link gets a lot of his cels from YJ and he's actually one of the people I was referring to with my post about boycotting (notice I mentioned a sale). I've actually had to outbid Link a few times on auctions and was VERY grateful for doing so because I know what he was up to.

It's his business to run his business however he pleases. But he doesn't see my money because of that business. I don't like inflated prices on things that were readily available to the public for much cheaper. I greatly dislike that practice.

I also dislike sellers who photoshop their cels, but that's another story.
