Not all zero French bidders are bad

Post by mightymask »

I just had one of my auctions complete with a payment right after it ended - Don't get me wrong - I was worried - but it was a happy ending

I've noticed this trend before.

Where exactly does this angst for French bidders come from as it seems to be a general idea within the cel collecting community ?

Gabe, from reading previous threads there seems to be one person in France that has a long history of bidding on Dragonball cels on Ebay, winning the auctions, then never paying.
This person changes their Ebay Id numerous times and keeps bidding even after 1 Id is blocked. I am sure that those who have had this problem can add more info.

I am sure that because of this unethical person, any new person who bids on Dragonball cels and lives in France is suspected of being one of the person's false Id's. Hence this thread expressing pleasant surprise.

Well it goes back to the old Animanga days. There were like three or four cel troublemakers that were based in France. They caused a lot of problems for a lot of cel collectors over the years. One of the troublemakers was a French online store that sold cels. They became infamous for the things they did (losing orders, selling items that were already sold and squashing the cels they sent to people). One of the other three or four troublemakers kept changing their name so people kept mistakenly having more bad cel transactions with the same person.

I suppose since there were hardly any cel posters from France at Animanga back then - like what? Only five or six altogether? It became kind of ominous for awhile when you found out the person trying to buy or sell you cels was based in France. It was a sad association with the three or four troublemaking French posters.

I feel bad for the cel collectors in France because of all the trouble those infamous people caused over the course of several years. X|

I've had mixed relations with Europeans when it's come to E-bay and cels. The majority of French buyers/sellers I've been involved with have all been problematic. If it's lack of communication, it's lack of item...or complaints about the item because they couldn't understand the terminology used.

I've also had a real issue with the Italian Postal Service....and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has. The Italian Service is infamous for "loosing" mail, even if it's registered or sent via EMS. I recall I sent an Italian customer some Sailormoon cards via EMS and I had to track down the package since it had not arrived in 1 week...after 2 more weeks and many headaches with the USPS, it arrived to its location. I, too, feel sorry for the Italians and their inconsistent postal system.

Thanks for the brief lesson in cel history, guys.

It shows again how fast a rep can get built.
