okay... I think I figured it out. The message was in my Inbox and when I clicked the link it took me to a page that was made to look like ebay but in fact it wasn't. It's a scam isn't it?

Good think I didn't enter my information. Can anyone confirm this?

Eeek! Sounds pretty scammy to me. The way to see if it is really from ebay is to go to ebay.com directly, then log in to your MyEbay page and see if you have any messages there. They put all official correspondence on your ebay page as well as in your inbox. You can also go to the account links on your MyEbay page and it will tell you what your last invoice was and what kind of balance you have.

Scammers loooove using ebay and paypal accounts as bait.

That's where the message was located. I logged into ebay then went to my status page. I noticed that I had 2 emails from ebay regarding my invoice. I clicked the most recent message and it showed me that I have a large credit balance (over $200). Everything appears to be internal but I'm still not certain that it's true. The invoice says that I made a payment to ebay on November 14th of 2005 but I don't remember doing that. To get a refund I need to enter paypal information.

hmmmm....

Whoa - this message was in your 'my messages' inbox on ebay? Hmm.. I think I'd contact eBay about this before entering PayPal information.

I agree. I sent you a PM too. Is there an easy way to contact ebay? I've heard they're not great with customer service.

heading out right now... be back later today.

Got your PM & responded. I have so far been unable to find a telephone number for their customer support folks. I'll let you know if I come up with anything, though... still hunting through their huge help section & site map. X|

hey soda,
have you checked your account status, which is in your seller account found in your My eBay page? it shows everything you've paid and been credited with for the past 4 months. the totals in the message you received should match what you find in the account status. good luck, i hope that's a real credit or maybe hidden money.

I think the best way to make first contact with ebay is with the Live Help... on the home page, there is a little yellow balloon with a question mark (upper Right corner, I think) that if you click it you should go right into a customer service live chat online. I think that is the only way they advertise that you can actually talk to someone there. The Live Help person will give you the phone number if they can't solve your problem.

Thanks to shellie and zero for looking at my account. They are both of the opinion that I legitimately have some money and that it's not a scam. I'll contact ebay of course before I begin anything. The odd thing is that the credit card attached to my account has been cancelled even before that date of the credited amount. I don't get statements for that card anymore. I'll look through my account in more detail and try and track down the source of the money.

I think it's hidden money. bonus....

I did the live chat thing and I it's real!! I have no idea where the money came from but they're sending mea check. For some reason it can't be refunded through paypal. I'll be a bit richer in a few days.
