A few hours ago I just relisted 3 auctions that didn't sell when they ended today. As I made my nightly new cel rounds on eBay I spotted my relisted cels and noticed that there was a duplicate auction for one of them. I don't know what eBay did, so screwy. So I had to cancel one of the duplicates early.
Even though I relisted those 3 auctions (#1) why does my ebay account still show those auctions being in the 'not sold' section of my account, and (#2) why I was charged for relisting them?
I thought eBay would let you relist an item for free one more time then after that you have to pay again for listing it a third time. I'm slightly annoyed to see these things on my account. I haven't sold anything on eBay for about a year now so it seems, IMO, they have changed things quite a bit.
Question about relisting auctions...

When you relist, you get charged the relevant listing fees. If the item sells, those fees are refunded. If it doesn't sell, ebay makes more money off your hard luck. They're not like Yahoo Japan (I think I'm watching too much news about latino immigrants - I spelled it "Yajoo" the first typing through - ), where I think you're allowed to just keep relisting for the initial fees.

The not sold section will house all of the auctions that have "not sold."
That's just what it does. I think they keep this for you incase you want
to relist an item or sell something similar. It's supposed to be a convenience,
I imagine.
As was said, the fees are charged and then refunded if your item is
successfully sold.

Oh yeah- once an item doesn't sell, it falls into your Unsold list. When you relist, you'll see a check next to the little "relist" box to the right, but relisting doesn't change the fact that it didn't sell the first time, so a record of that stays in the Unsold list, even though the relisted auction now also shows up in your Selling list.
In fact, during a really fun year, if you list something several times and it never sells, you'll see the little sucker there in the Unsold list several times!
Think of the Selling, Sold and Unsold lists as similar to written logbooks. They are just records of what's been done or is doing, like an electronic notebook. They're not the actual listings, although they link to them.

Oh that sux. I always thought they wouldn't charge you a fee for relisting the item if it didn't sell the first time. Here is what I found on their faq.

They must have changed the rules to make more money or something. If your listing ends without a winning buyer or results in an Unpaid Item (UPI), you may qualify for a credit by relisting the item. If the item sells the second time, eBay will refund the Insertion Fee for the relisting.

Wow, this is going to be confusing for me until I get used to it. I did notice those little checkmarks after I relisted an item. Thanks for clearing this up for me.hobbywhelmed wrote:Oh yeah- once an item doesn't sell, it falls into your Unsold list. Should I 'remove' the 'not sold' items that have been relisted? Or is it better to keep them there?

It depends on how or if you use those lists. The only things I delete on a regular basis are the auctions I lose and am somewhat cranky about. I usually keep the viewing-periods of the lists at 7 days to 31 days, and hate to see the lost ones thumbing their little e-noses at me.
The only time the unsold one becomes confusing, is if you put up a bunch of things, and some don't sell the first time, and/or second time, but then some do later, and some you don't relist right away. Gotta double check the Sold list before hitting an old relist button for something that might have already sold later on. (You can do up to a 60-day view into the past.)

Gee, no - the thought would never occur to them....
