not about cels... but ebay.... - combined shipping delimma

Post by iwakuralain16 »

Alright so i have a little bit of a problem.
i bought some dvds from a seller, who was selling them rather cheap. his feedback is okay 99.3% but he had $5.99 on each dvd. of course i bidded on 8 of them and ended up winning them all. So what does he do? send me an invoice for each dvd, with the dvd + shipping for each of them.

I have perfect feedback, so i am trying not to ruin that. but I sent him an e-mail asking him if he can give me a shipping discount since i bought so many(And since i know he will mail them all at once) and of course i have not received a response yet(hasnt been that long haha). I should have asked this before i made the bids, but i was in a hurry to just bid at work i didnt have time to shoot him an e-mail. bah... anyways.

so lets say he says he will not combine shipping... I am thinking about telling himj that if he can not combine shipping or give me discount on the dvds, that i want each packaged seperately and sent seperately since that is how i am paying for them. Is this fair? I think it is... $5.99 flat rate shipping for a dvd is waaay too high, especially for a crappy region 0 dvd.

Sorry, i had to complain. I do not like people who gouge shipping prices... it really makes me flustered. >_<

thanks /swt lol

I think, if the seller will not combine shipping ... meaning that you are paying a separate shipping charge for each dvd ... it's only fair that he should send each one out separately. To me, that seems like the only way you get any "value" at all for the extra shipping charges you may have to pay.

Hopefully, they will just combine the shipping, though. I've had this happen with dvds before, where the seller sent an invoice listing multiple dvds, each with a separate shipping charge. Each time, they have gone back and corrected it to combine the shipping. Of course, it's been a while since I purchased DVDs off of ebay ... and I don't know if it was the same seller you're using. X|

I hope it works out for you! *sends good luck vibes*

Absolutely what Tex-chan said. If he's not willing to combine shipping, then you’re completely justified to be a pain in the ass like he's been.

I’m sure it’ll work out though.

from my experiece with the region 0 dvd sellers, is that they combine shipping, but don't give discounts.... they want to make sure they get say 10-20 for each dvd, so they charge 6-10 shipping per dvd... to save on ebay ending fees...

i once ended up paying 100 for shipping that cost the guy 8.... i made the mistake of taking "combined shipping" to mean that there was a discount involved... no it just meant he/she woudl ship them all in the same box.

but if the guy doesn't even say combined shipping, and wont answer emails... and has sent you an invoice for each dvd by itself, then definately ask for them separtely.

Personally i have never had a good opinion on those region 0 dvd sellers. And most of those bootlegs have crappy quality and crappy subtitles. Fansubs are the way to go. If you want to purchase something and the region 1-2 dvds are too expensive think that now most of the series are released in an economic boxset when the series is completely released. The only difference for these economic boxset dvds is that their boxset case is just that.... economic.... but the dvds inside are the same of the original releases.

As for your trouble with the shipping, you should try to explain the seller the situation. Many of them just send the automatic invoice to see if you "don't notice" the difference. Don't fear the negative, just tell them that you are going to ask ebay about their policy about combined shippings, sometimes this makes them more reasonable.

And as for negative feedbacks, i believe that nowadays they be retracted if both parts agree to it.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this. I hope everything works out okay. But remember even if you complain to him to mail them individually to you since you paid shipping for each DVD, that doesn't guarantee he'll do it. And you can't officially complain to anyone since you did receive your items. Does his auctions say "will combine shipping" anywhere in the listings?

I've had a bidder in the past who wrote me with specific instructions on how to pack and send their cel. Well, I was annoyed by this because the "tone" I read from the email was that I didn't know what I was doing. I've mailed many cels in the past that have arrived safely to their new owners. So I packed and mailed the cel like I always do ignoring said email. I still received and gave positive feedback. So just be aware.

I've had another issue where I said I'd combine shipping but wait for me to send the invoice with the new shipping. My bidder didn't and combined them theirself. I had to write them telling them I needed more money since what they sent wasn't enough. The weight caused the shipping to increase quite a bit since this wasn't a cel auction.

Actually, I think the price is fair. I charge $4-$5 typically to mail a DVD. I always add delivery confirmation too. But there's a hidden cost in my DVD packaging. The mailers I use I had to go buy. They are not free supplies like what the post office uses. That's why ebay calls it "shipping and handling" fee.

Eek! Sorry I was so long winded. X|

But does it cost $45 to send 8 dvds? i could think not. You could send them flat rate priority mail for cheaper. >_> i hidden costs sometimes on shipping, just because i have to buy the shipping supplies and that is never cheap, but this is a BIG hidden cost. >_>

Ebay charges around 12-20% after you deduct Ebay Fees and Paypal so that's what he's charging for.

So you have to watch out for that next time.

I would suggest paypaling him the total with $30 shipping and he will most likely ship them to you unless he's a complete idiot. If he doesn't send them... then send the other $15

all of these had pictures of the items... so i feel good about that.

NOW. I did speak with the seller(finally lol). he said that when people ask if he will combine shipping he says no, but since i bought so many of the dvds he will knock off one of the $5.99 shipping charges.... >_>

That is good enough for me, i really want the movies and it is still cheaper than buying a ton of them from hong kong(they tend to be ruthless with the shipping haha). I just bought a new dvd shelf, so now i am buying movies that i want to watch/own. /ok

I had a similar issue with some cd's I bought the Shipper charged me $3.50 in shipping on each CD I bought which annoyed me since they were sending them together and sending them via media mail. But, It was like It's only a few extra bucks and they were $1 auctions I can deal. But, then they sent them all in an UNPADED envelope, no packing material whatsoever! and it cost them less than $2. Not to mention though the cd's themselves were fine the cases cracked and broke. I'm hesitant to leave them Neg/neautral feedback though since it's Jen's ebay name that I'm building feedback for so a retalitory comment would really hurt her score. So at this point I feel like there's really no recourse. :?

It's nice that you got at least one charge taken off though!

I bought the entire Samurai Champloo DVD 'set' for $35. All I got was three burned DVD-Rs sent in a plain envelope (the auction claimed it was case and all included - yeah, the DVD-R paper CD holding case -,-).

Some people just suck. :(
