Auction Shipping Update Cels went out today!!

Post by chibikitty2045 »

Hi

My next day off will be on tuesday, so everyones cels will be going out then.

I would like to offer an apology to my bidders about the paypal fees.
It was my understanding that they were a common practice with cels either on or off of ebay as this is what I had done in the past by other sellers/collectors

If I sent you an invoice and you do not wish to pay the paypal fees, I will mutually accept a withdrawl from the ebay contract.

Sorry to ruffle any feathers
thank you for your bids

Angel

You do know that those bidders can report you to ebay if you refuse to sell to them without the fees?

No one's ever asked me to pay paypal fee's on ebay, and only a couple private sellers have asked me to pay them if I preferred to use paypal over MO. I would offer the auction winners the cel's for the ending price without the fee's. They probably will still want the cels. :)

Hi Bran-Chan

I do understand, which is why I left the option of sending a money order. I do perfer paypal, but just those fees were a killer and ever since I was bidding and selling people would ask me to cover the paypal fees. I guess I was suckered into it, but I know better now.

Thank you for your help as well Icatino.
I guess I will just suck up the fees :^^:

Did you state on all your ebay listings that the winner must add paypal fees?
if not then you have no right to ask for them. I have bought hundreds of things from ebay using paypal and never once been asked to pay paypal fees, nor have I ever asked anyone to pay them as it is the fee the seller pays for instant payment and security.

Actually you have no right to charge paypal fees ever. You can be kicked off ebay for that. It is against ebay's rules.

With ebay's rules if you offer paypal you must accept it no matter what. Even if they want to pay with a credit card and you have to upgrade your paypal account. You are never allowed to charge a fee or percentage for using paypal.

I hope none of your winners has reported you because ebay has become very seller unfriendly lately and takes these violations quite seriously.

Hmmm.. I did not know you needed a special paypal account to accept credit cards. :o I use mine very often for ebay and non ebay transactions. I've never sold on ebay, but I was aware it was against the rules to ask buyers to pay the fees.

Thanks for the info Bran ^^

It's basically an upgraded paypal account called a premier account. As per the paypal tos:

4.3 Use of PayPal on eBay.Sellers who offer PayPal as a payment method in their eBay listings (either via logos or through text in the item description) must accept Card Funded Payments. Sellers must have a Premier or Business PayPal Account, or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal Account to a Premier or Business Account upon receipt of a Card Funded Payment. Sellers may not communicate to buyers that they only accept, or will not accept, specific forms of PayPal payment.

They'll let you accept 5 credit card transactions before they ask you to upgrade but they can't be for ebay transactions. Then they'll charge you a higher fee than if you would have upgraded to the premier account.

even if paypal fees were stated in auction description, those would be taken into account by buyer, just like high shipping fees, and reduce the total selling price of your auction negating any recoop of paypal fees (theoretically).

i personally hate it when auctions make you pay paypal fees, which is a rarity.

private sales are okay though since it does not depend on secondary bidders determining final sales price.

8O I did not know it was against the rules....I know better now...
But I think it's total B.S since they don't let me sale without offering Paypal. If I could I would only offer M.Os. And with ebay listing and ending fees, adding paypal to the fees the seller has to pay is madness...

So I'll try using some other way to accept payment online...I think I heared that google has some type of method...
Anywho....hope no one reports you..because that rule is silly....

Of course it is. They're afraid that if you charge the buyer PayPal fees, then the buyer might prefer to use another method of payment...and we can't have that, now can we? It's just one more of their self-serving policies at the seller's expense, worded in such a way as to make it seem as though it's really for everyone else's benefit.
But I think it's total B.S since they don't let me sale without offering Paypal.
Exactly. It's a scam, plain and simple.

Wow, I also didn't know sellers were forced to offer paypal! I won some books once where the seller stated only MO was available for payment, and it seems I have seen other auctions (rarely) where they state paypal is not available. Is this a new rule, or were those sellers maybe just going against ebay rules?

In any case, it is stupid for ebay to force sellers to offer paypal. :wack I hate paypal, and I've never even sold on ebay. :kaioken They're customer service sucks. 'roll

It's a new rule, but it only applies to certain people - e.g., those who have poor feedback or low feedback, people who sell items in certain categories...and newbie sellers, I'm afraid. :(

Actually it's not a new rule. In 2007 all new sellers had to start using it and this year in certain categories like electronics you have to offer it. Honestly I prefer it because if both buyer and seller follow the rules you don't get screwed over. Of course the seller has more rules to follow.

For those of us who have been selling on eBay for several years, a rule that has been in place since as recently as March of this year constitutes 'new'. I understand why you like it, bran-chan, since I realize that you are strictly a buyer - but as for me, I hate it. It's just one more way for eBay/PP to squeeze money out of the sellers...which I consider synonymous with "screwed over" - so I must respectfully disagree with you on that point. Of course the buyers lose nothing by it - but then again, when do they ever? And why do I take this so personally? Because as a buyer, I have had problems with exactly two sellers. As a seller, I have lost track of the number of buyers who have given me trouble.
