Paypal Protection?

Post by toonybabe »

Hello fellow collectors!

I need some advice on a Paypal transaction. I am getting ready to make a fairly large purchase through Paypal and I just want to make sure that I am covering all of my bases as far as buyer protection goes. The purchase is not through eBay - I will be sending the money via the Send Money option on Paypal to another collector's email address.

Since many of you have probable made pricey transactions for cels and collectibles in the past I was hoping someone could offer me some advice as to anything else I should do to protect myself. I am paying with a credit card instead of having Paypal take the money out of my account and I am paying for insurance and tracking. I have confidence in the seller, but it is a large purchase (at least for me) and I am nervous about it.

Thanks in advance!!!

Well hopefully you know the collector or at least have heard from others who have had dealings with them that you feel comfortable with them.

I have had many dealing with paypal and have not had any problems. Those I have heard that had bad paypal experiences were mainly involving E-bay.

What can give you added protection is if you have your paypal linked to a major credit card instead of the funds coming from your bank account. Doing that you have the fall back of your Credit Card being involved in any dispute if one does occur. Paypal can't withdraw funds if a transaction goes bad if the funds you paid with have been withdrawn (Main E-bay headache, can't get blood from a turnip) while a Credit card company can reverse a payment to paypal thus recovering your money.
