Looks like Hurricane Relief for me!!

Post by fetish4minx »

Yup, unless something goes badly over the next few days...it looks like I'm going to fly down to New Orleans for 9 days and help out!

I'm so excited...this is so much better than France!

I don't have the $$ to go...so I'm charging it in hopes I can sell enough cels and *stuff* when I return (and maybe while I'm gone!-Thanks NSP!) to cover the expenses. I even have childcare set up for my little one...and I got the time off work!

I'm so excited! (and scared).

Has anyone else helped out with the Relief workers? Can you give me any insight? I'd like to know what I should take or not take.

We *were* going to Beaumont, TX...and just got re-assigned to Slibell, LA (just across the lake from New Orleans).

Anyone familiar with LA?

Any tips or encouragement GREATLY appreciated!!!

marie :)

Do you, by any chance, mean Slidell? :D Yes, I have a couple of friends there. If you want their contact information I could get it for you! (Just so you might have someone down there to contact if you need any help). It looks like they did okay. A lot have power back on up there, I'm betting you'll be helping with the shelter.

WAY TO GO!!!!! :yay: Good for you for helping out!!!!! :dban

Out STANDING!!

Way to go. I'm so envious. Helping out seems so much more important than figuring out what to call a score of a concerto that really isn't a concerto and only has the melody in it. (never mind...)

Are you both going, or is Papa NotPhobos staying home with Baby NotPhobos?

Suggestions. Hmmm.... I wonder, but usually you hear about the massive crunching need for basics like diapers and toiletries. I spect it would depend on how much of the infrastructure has gotten turned back on! Seriously, things like shampoo, bandaids, dishwashing liquid.. those are the kinds of things that don't take up much room in the cart but take care of a relief check in a big hurry :-(.

Whatever it is you do is going to be FABULOUS!! :ghug: What a couple of great people you are :)

I just heard back more details...
they need Femine Hygeine products and pedialyte.

I guess where I'm going (Slidell) there is power, water, and sewage---yeah!

So...looks like I'll be trying to gather two suitcases of pads and tampons! I wonder what airport security will say?

THANK YOU!
and if anyone wants to donate some $$ towards the purchase of the above mentioned two suitcases of supplies for the refugees/evacuees...please feel free to paypal it to me. I promise that 100% of the gross you paypal (I'll pay the fees) will purchase these items. If there is money left over, I will refund that.

Drop me a PM or email if you're interested/willing to help.

However, the funds need to be here in 24 hours because I'm leaving late Tuesday.

marie :)
