Anime Stores in Chicago ...??

Post by tex-chan »

Heya!! I'm in Chicago for the next few days --- my hubby had a meeting, and I came along in the hopes of getting some writing done and also to take a bit of a "sanity break" from the ankle-biter. (She stayed at home with my parents :) ).

So ... I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether there are any great anime stores here. As huge as this city is, there would have to be at least one or two. :D

I'm staying downtown, so someplace I can get to by cab would be preferable. Any advice, anyone???

Its not really an anime store (although, there is a bookstore, arcade, and toy shop inside of it) but you MUST go to Mitsuwa while you are there. Its basically a HUGE Japanese Supermarket. They have a bakery, 5 restaurants, a travel agency, a bookstore, a video rental place, an arcade, a toy shop......and tons of other cool things. If you go there I guarantee you will spend most of your money in the candy/snacks aisle (yes, cheap pocky!!). Just do a google search for it to find directions. Its really easy to get to, just right off the highway. I've driving to Chicago (I live in W. Michigan) just to go to this store. It rocks.

I think you mean "it's" or "it is" not "its". Do you think robots can do to get to just right off the highway.

Mitsuwa is probably the best bet. Not exactly in the city though:
100 E. Algonquin Road,
Arlington Hts., IL 60005

Just a note, the toy store actually moved out of the building. It's in a seperate location, in a strip mall. I don't know the actual address but it's across the street from Wal-Mart (I think). It's call Japan Toys and Gifts or something like that.

There's always China Town for cheap knock off stuff. :) You can get there easily by taking the Red Line south to Argyle.

If you're in town for the next few days, the Reactor con is going on (Formerly Anime Reactor). You could always get a one day pass. ^_^

Both Reactor and Mitsuwa would probably be a pretty pricy cab ride though. ^^;;

Hey Tex,

I've lived here all my life and unfortunately have never come across a great anime store in the city. :roll: Mitsuwa is fun but probably not worth the cab ride. You're probably better off just enjoying the sights. For the best view of the city, the women's bathroom on the 96th floor of the John Hancock building can't be beat. And it's also a great place to relax and get a drink (the 96th, not the women's bathroom).

If I wasn't so bogged down with 2 practical exams, 1 written exam, a project and a paper due next week, I would love to meet you. X| :l But please let me know if I can answer any other Chicago questions.

Have a great mini vacation!!
