The Casshern Movie
Has anyone seen the Japanese Casshern remake of the classic anime/manga series of the same title? I really liked it...and then got talking with another friend and she was telling me how much of a bomb it was...and that the acting was horrible... I really didn't think so.... lol But I'm curious if anyone else has seen it what you thought about it. I thought the boys in it were cute. heehee

That's what I thought. It was a beautiful movie and the cinematography and CG stuff was great. It really felt like an anime movie...just with real people. lol And the theme of the movie was excellent and...really touched on current events. I could tell they were trying to allude to events like Iraq and... the "war on terror". I thought it was fitting. But...I actually cried at the end!! WHAT IS UP WITH THAT!? lol I mean, the theme was just soo good... I really liked it. Wonder why it bombed here though.
booya!

hahahaha
i loved it.. enough to make it my s/n here. i just thought the special effects, cg and story was really well done.
i agree the acting is a little corny especially the 'mehhh-huh??' guy and main villain but man.. the fight sequence is just so bad ass
it looked like something out of a videogame.
the soundtrack is pretty cool too IMO.

OK let's stop it now.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Ah the Casshern movie… definitely not your American film nostalgic super-hero romp.
The art direction was surprisingly cohesive, and the special effects were more than acceptable considering the likely budgetary constraints. Many a major studio has not been half as effective with more than twice the money.
The pacing was uneven; dragging in some places and much too rushed in others. The acting was a mixed bag as well, but on the whole, the film was infused with a sincerity that made up for its shortcomings.
The subtitled translation on my DVD was in perfect idiomatic English, although I cannot verify its accuracy.
The moral was very dark. Mankind has every opportunity for happiness, but cannot recognize it, and is only capable of destroying it, and so will never achieve it…sort of an anti-Babbette’s Feast.
Overall I would describe it as a definite yes for Otaku; and for mainstream film viewers, if not quite ready for primetime, it certainly won’t embarrass you in front of your friends and colleagues.
