Photoshop Elements 2 layers tips
Photoshop Elements 2 layers tips
Okay. I'm finally serious about getting my gallery updated. I've scanned my back-log of cels and scanned some of my backgrounds, and SURELY it is a snap to digitally combine one on top of the other... but heck if I can figure it out.
I know that I'll need to build it using layers, but when I make the background the background layer and then add a cel on top, the background isn't visible. Do I have to cut out the cel image using the magic wand or something so that the clear acetate parts are gone, or is there a nifty tool that just makes the transparent areas transparent?
If someone would'nt mind walking me through the steps to make a 2-layer image in Photoshop Elements, I'd be ever-so-grateful for the help.

So far as I'm aware, Shell, you've got to cut out the part you want, discarding the rest. It's a royal pain in the a$$ if you're anywhere as anal as I am about these sort of things.
Tips? Fiddle with the threshold option for the magic wand (10 is usually a good starting point) and use shift/control to add/delete sections to you selected area. Work on selecting all of the stuff you don't want, then invert your selection and cut. Voila!

Woohooo, 4D.. Thanks!! For what I'm doing right now, the magic wand IS magic when used with the magic word you taught me: "INVERT"! Wow, that one command made the process of cutting out the pieces quite a bit easier!
Okay, so now I have the 3 book cel images cut out and the background image opened... how do I get each of them into one window? I have 4 layers all ready to go in the first doctored cel image window, but I don't know how to get the rest of the pieces of my puzzle over there to be layers 2-4. (Sorry I'm so clueless. I'm a quick learner, but with so many tools in this fun program I just need to be pointed in the right direction. )
Thank you so much!!
(And later I'll ask you to teach me about this magic clone stamp of which you speak! )

Ok. With each piece, after you've done the invert and you have just what you want surrounded by the blinking magic wand outline, copy the selected area (under the edit menu). Now go to your background image and select paste (also under the edit menu). You can then use the tool with the pointer and the four-directional arrow to move your layers around so they match just how you like. Once you have all your layers arranged just so, flatten the image (under the layers menu). Now you've got a single-layer image with everything you want on it. Be sure to save it as a photoshop document before you flatten it, though, if you think you might ever want to go back and tweak it some more.

Hope this is right:
You use the Move tool (keyboard shortcut "V") and just click + drag one image to the destination one. It will create a new layer in the destination image. If you need to drag multiple layers at a time to another image "link" them in the layers panel before you drag them over. You can select multiple layers in the layer panel by shift clicking each layer and then hitting the chain link icon on the bottom left (background layers need to be duplicated before you can move/link them).
^ what 4D said works too

I fail to see the relevance of that allusion.

Nice job, Shell! Very good for your first time.
That particular cel brings back memories.... Zero and I used to sit and snicker every time one of the G Gundam pilots donned their shrinkwrap "mobile trace suit." Rain, in particular, sounded like she was in the middle of an obscene act.

And I wasn't going to say anything, but yep... gotta love those 'suit-up' scenes in G Gundam. hahaha!4_degree wrote:That particular cel brings back memories....
