It Has Begun!

Post by Lynxa »

Yes, it has finally happened. I have decided that it is time for me to...

*cue dramatic music*

LEARN HOW TO DRIVE! X| You heard it right folks. I'm 26, don't have a driver's license, and signed up for behind the wheel lessons.

I just had my first lesson and, aside from the nerves created by my first two scheduled lessons being cancelled because a student drove a car through the wall of the school, I actually did pretty well! :D I drove all over this nutty city and managed not to hit anything/one! :D (If you've ever driven in New Orleans you'd realize this is an admirable feat). Of course every muscle in my body is KILLING me now because I was SO tense for two solid hours.

So keep your fingers crossed for me :rollin Hopefully I'll come out of this okay and able to drive. 8)

Congrats on your decision! :yay
My fiance, who just turned 25, didn't get his license until last summer. You will do fine. Eventually you will grow more confident as you take your lessons.

I've had my license for about 10 years now but we are living in NJ where the people are demon drivers. I absolutely refuse to drive here and NY but will drive everywhere else.

oh noes!! Everyone get off the Sidewalks!! (J/K)

Good luck in your driving! I didn't get my license until I was 20; I didn't really need it 'til then!
I'm sure you'll learn real quick how to be a decent driver. (Unlike me, the leadfoot :D [i've learned to slow down-a little.]) At least you won't need to worry about snow. Up here, it seems every time people see the first snowflake, there's an accident immediately. Like people FORGET how to drive in winter.

Well, again, GOOD LUCK! And keep those auto insurance premiums low! :)

Good for you, Lynxa, that's a wise decision!
Ne need to feel tense behind the wheel, it's just like playing sports or using the computer- after a little practice it becomes second nature and you'll wonder why you ever worried in the first place.

Keep it up; just remember to avoid pedestrians and recall that a red traffic light means 'Stop' ;)

Don't feel bad. I'm 29 and never had a license. I am thinking it might be time for me as well. Best of luck!

Ran through the wall??!! That is too funny!

I commend you on you're ability to go-out and do something new! Especially as old as you are! O_O :P I'll keep my fingers crossed that the rest of your lessons go as well. Mostly, I'll have 'em crossed for all the poor pedestrians! :P

You are only as old as you feel. How about that.

See? even Cloud knows that there is no particular age to learn to drive. I didn't get mine until I was 19 or 20 because there was nowhere in particular to drive TO. (What, I had some overwhelming need to drive to Skowhegan, Maine? :crazy )

There's no shame in not having a license if there's never been a need for one, you know? But a license is an extremely important commodity in emergencies or if you need to travel a lot. ...

Good luck, Godspeed (well, easy on the speed part) and we'll hope that you, unlike your predecessor in the class, CAN tell the brake from the accelerator! :P (that is SO classic!)

Interesting. Can a license be anything else?

Yeeeeah, the weird thing is that since this is a driving class the instructor has gas and brake on their side of the car that overrides the driving side. 8O So the student was messing up AND the instructor wasn't paying attention :rollin The hole in the wall was HUGE too! X|

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. I'm trying to finagle the use of one of my friends' cars to roll around a parking lot in and try to figure out turning. Other than not being good with turns, the instructor said I was really good!! :D (But considering the car-through-the-wall thing her standards might be pretty low at this point :rollin)

YAY, Lynxa!!!!
Go get 'em!
:D
I got a lisence in high school in Kansas. Drove until we moved out here where there are no personally owned vehicles.
I kept my driver's lisence renewed until my last birthday where time and space killed me.
I sent the renewal fax, but coming in the snail mail was a written test and a requirement that I get an eye exam as well before I could renew my lisence.
Yeah.
There's an optician that comes out to the island maybe twice a year.
My lisence is expired. X|

I may find myself having to take a class whenever we get back stateside now too.
I'll have to ask you for lessons!!! :D
