Silly question, what are Abobe Illustrator/Image Ready for?
I've been using Photoshop for months but we also have those two additional programs on one of our computers that we NEVER used before. What does each program do and what are they usually used for? The reason I ask is because I need to make some animated gifs for several groups of sketches I want to sell.

Hey Sugah,
Illustrator is a vector art illustration program. Basically, you can draw original stuff with it, where as Pshop is more of an image manipulation program. A lot of their functions overlap, but that's the basic difference.
ImageReady is a web image program and is perfect for animated gifs. It's possible to create whole web pages without knowing any HTML using ImageReady.
I'm sure there are others who can explain it better.

Yeah, you'd want to use Image Ready for animated gifs.
Trivia: Imade Ready is also useful for opening copyrighted material, such as
scans of money. Photoshop is set up to not allow you to open a scan of money.
Kooky huh?
This video explains it and is very amusing.

Lemar did a wonderful job explaining the differences between Illustrator and IR.
Here is an example of a drawing that was colored in Photoshop but has
elements that were made with Illustrator. The earrings and necklace are
from Illustrator, you can see the differences.

And here are some random examples of things you can create with Illustrator.

I understand. Who else would want to use Image Ready for animated gifs ?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
