HELP! Chinese Clothing

Post by wELCOME cONSUMER »

I really need to find someone who knows about Chinese clothing. I've tried
my best to do research online, but it's not helping very much. I can find
basic/general info about the culture and some names of clothes, but not
enough pictures as references. I can't read Chinese, so I'm not sure if what
I'm looking at matches the name provided.

I especially need to know about the Hanfu, or Han Dynasty clothing.

I don't need any clothes made. I just need some help identifying the names
and terms of certain Chinese clothes, based on pictures. If anyone thinks
they can help me with that, I'd be forever grateful!

I dont really know if this is of any help, :? but i searched it and found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:2005 ... 327205.jpg

Description of Hanfu
Shenyi (深衣) is a kind of full-length, one-piece robe which links the Yi and Chang together to wrap up the body. It is cut separately but sewn together. Shenyi was named because when it was worn "the body was deeply wrapped up".

Parts of Shenyi:

Jin: the front of upper garment
Jiaoling Youren: "Crossed collars, tying to the right." This is the standard collar style of hanfu. For both men and women, always overlap the right side of the hanfu with the left side. The opposite right-over-left style is for other nations or used to dress a corpse for burial.
Qu: sleeve cuffs
Mei: sleeves
Chang: skirt
Quju: skirt with curved hem formed by circling the fabric around the body

and also i found this link http://www.rechishop.com/gallery/index.php

Thanks a lot Harry! I looked at Wiki and found it useful, but the only problem
is, I can't confirm what they say. If anyone could please look at that entry
in Wikipedia and let me know if those terms for Chinese clothing are accurate,
it'd be a HUGE help!

I don't know how fast you need your info, but Poison Pen Press, I know from a con earlier this year, has a fabulous book on Chinese historical garb.

http://www.poisonpenpress.com/

If time is of the essence, though, I suggest you wander through some of the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) sites. There's a wealth of historical costuming info, including Eastern garb.

Or the international Costumer's Guild - some links to info:

http://www.lib.unimelb.edu.au/whatson/e ... index.html

Hope this helps a bit!
