That's very true. It's always better to wait for the next gen systems.

I can see what you're saying about the controllers and interactivity of the recent Nintendo/Wii machines, I had a go on a DS Lite recently and was impressed with the stylus and 2-screen idea.

However [in amost] every game I play I don't want to think about what's in my hands, I want to be absorbed by the gameplay, story, sound and graphics within the game itself and I feel comfortable finger tapping on a gamepad or joystick.
I prefer to be involved in games mentally rather than physically. The dance mats, fishing rods, chainsaws and infa red thingies aren't a selling point for me.
Many will argue that these gizmos aid one's engagement with the game but they don't do anything for me... *thinks*... well, Guitar Hero is cool. :^^:

I want a system with good RPG's...

The Gamecube did poorly with that. And my PS2 doesn't even rest.

I hope the New Nintendo will get more developers to make RPG's this time around.

in another forum i go to there have been several threads on the new systems... always ending up with so many people saying nintendo sucks b/c many of their games are 'kid friendly'... so i'll admit when i saw this i though 'not another which is better discussion'... when i saw it was just a funny video i sighed relief... till i saw people were taking it seriously, and that made me sad again.

I want a Wii and I want a PS3 - but 500-600 for a system is just too insane in my book... espeically when i'm more excited about the Wii, the games look fun, I'm itching to try Red Steel and the new Mario... and being able to DL all the old school games. FUN! :D (i forgot to mention i already have my wii pre-ordered)

*does the i'm getting a wii dance, wondering if it looks like the potty dance*

i'm not sure about the PS3

I don't think the Wii has any being launched with the system that are typical RPG for the Wii... but i'm prety sure the new Zelda is going to be launched with it... and if you like RPGs you will be able to download all the oldschool RPGs that came out for the SNES, Sega Genesis, and NeoGeo...

That sounds good and bad, good if there were titles you hadn't been able to find but bad if you collect the originals. I paid over $120 for The Secret of Mana on the SNES, one the best games ever made IMO so to think that this and others can be downloaded from one source so easily leaves a bitter taste.
Perhaps you're gonna tell me that gamers have been doing this online for years- I have to admit I've never looked into it. ROMS confuse me and I'm not such a huge gamer that I care to learn.

Collecting the original cartridge is always really nice!!!

I like to keep them sealed in the package. So When I buy an old game like Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana... I don't even open it if it's sealed.

I play the roms.

Currently I can play Genesis, Nes, and Turbografix games on my PSP v1.5

I'm pretty sure they'll fix an emulator for SNES soon for the psp.

you're not the only one... i had to go out and buy later Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore and EarthBound. At least i had FF2 and 3 and Illusion of Gaia. >_< What I'm hoping this could mean, is that we can more easily play the games that never came out in the US... Like the Sequel to Secret of Mana Sieken Densetsu 3, some of the DBZ games, the Earthbound that was out of the NES... So many others...

Both

Post by eddiefb3 »

I have to say i would pick both. They both seem good. PS3 because i like how fancy it is. And if its like PS2 there will be a lot of exclusive titles.

However the Wii is completely different, it sounds so crazy its cool. Like the Nintendo DS, which i enjoy a lot more than a PSP. And i like the idea of downloading all those old mario games and replaying them.

So my choice would be both. But i may have to stick to the Wii at first and get a PS3 maybe when there is a price drop.

I recall reading somewhere that Nintendo said that their system is a secondary system to the others. They are expecting you to own a PS3 and/Or Xbox 360, as well as their system.

I know one thing. I am not getting an X-box 360...maybe i can get an original x-box for $50 soon.

A lot seems to hinge on the price of these machines. I remember when the PS2 came out and it cost GBP 500 new. That's around USD 950. You could pick them up a year later for less than GBP 150, that was a for a machine that claimed its parts were very expensive to manufacture and there was little room for price drops. *Pah*

The same will happen to every console over time so if you're not concerned with 'keeping up with the Jones', you'll get a good deal if you purchase later down the line.
These initial price projections shouldn't be a concern. If they are a concern because you want the new machines as soon as they hit the shelves, that's fine. You're obviously a keen gamer who counts it as a main hobby and should therefore be able to afford the full asking price. It'll just mean giving cels a rest for a while ;)

Who the hell paid $1K for a PS2?! I had no idea. I got mine for $299, and I didn't even pre-order.

New consoles are very expensive in this country, I assume it's because there are a lot of fans who are willing to pay such high prices for the latest machines.
Plus, we get shafted for everything anyway ;)

A friend of mine queued up at HMV to get his Dreamcast when it was released, the store had a special opening at midnight and only people with special tickets could buy one. I remember it being GBP 400 as a basic console/controllers but the pack with 3 games was just under GBP 500.

Wouldn't surprise me if these new consoles sell for a similar price, if not more when they first come out. Perhaps Sony will cock up the manufacturing quantities like they did with the PS2 so stores had a very limited number and they couldn't fulfill basic orders... That always causes things to sell for a higher price too.

You can probably tell from my tone that I'm very sceptical and bitter towards the whole gaming hobby and UK companies who rip us off. I am; but with good reason.
