Digital Camera suggestions?

I'm sort of lost as to which kind of digital camera I should get. I've got a Canon S400 Digital Elph for several years now and I've been thinking about getting a new one. I really want one doesn't pause when I click the button, you know, most of the point and shoot cameras will pause to take light reading and then take the picture. Anybody know of a type of camera that doesn't do that? I did look into digital SLR cameras briefly and I don't think I'm that good enough to use one of those, seems way too complicated. But I do want one that can take fast motions... suggestion please! Thanks so much for reading!
