Washer trouble

Post by miz ducky »

Tuesday night my washer decided to quit on me while I was trying to get my work clothes clean.

Friday, the Sears man came and literally did 3 minutes of work and charged me $185. (it was only the switch that tells the machine that the lid is closed.)

Thankfully, I can now clean my clothes in the privacy of my home.

But it seems that the washer gremlins have been rather active lately, so I was wondering...

Do you have any dead washer stories?

Sadly yes, couple of weeks ago my town's power had blinked on and off twice in a row while I was washing a load. Well, it fried something in the computer. Thankfully it allowed me to finish my load but afterwards it blinked E2 and pulled the start button in to lock itself. I was so pissed not only at the town for having crappy electric (happens alot have battery packs everywhere) but was furious that a washer not even seven months old had done this to me. I thought at first it would be out of commission for few days at most but no silly me had to misplace the extended warranty and now am having to wait for a record replacement. Definitely feel like I am back in college going to Mom's to do laundry, lol.

Yep, just 2 days ago my washer died during the spin cycle. It started buzzing, b/c the load was out of balance. So I try to fix it, only to find out it won't spin anymore.

It was pretty old so I am replacing it. I recently had to replace my dryer too, so I'm getting the matching washer. Of course, it's not in stock and have to wait until Tuesday to get it. The clothes with have to pile up until then.

The washer is well-behaved. It's the dryers that have been full of gremlins - my last one was a hand-me-down from my parents. But before I had it, they had loaned it to one of my dad's employees. Who lived at a frat house. Apparantly, they used it to store beer. -_- (I wish I was joking, but sometime I'll tell the story about the bug zapper my dad gave them.)

Surprisingly, it didn't have major problems - the drum or whatever was slightly crooked so it was noisy as all, but the annoying thing was the door - they somehow broke it and I had to "brace" it close, using a folding chair. It would vibrate and loosen the chair... and since I usually run the dryer while sleeping, many mornings I would awaken to still-damp clothing.

Hehehe... that ran long, didn't it?

There was this stick that came out of the Washer! And It sounded like a train when the washer was on.

I pulled really hard the the stick came out and now it still works but doesn't sound loud any more! :vict

I'm not sure how I fixed it?

Yeah my washer broke a bit over two weeks ago. It wouldn't drain or spin and I had to get all the jeans out of it and handwash and rinse which was a pain. I had to buy a new washer. And not just that, the pipe with the hot water hose connected to the washer broke and I had to get a plumber out here after hours emergency, which is hard out here in country.
Luckly one of my kids was home who ran to turn the main water off while I was fighting the water in the laundryroom not to get on the plug where the dryer is plugged in. The plumber came out three hours later and fixed my pipe.
Now we laughing about it, but weren't at the time. lol

Last year, my washer broke and flooded the room with about a inch deep worth of water. When I tried to spin the water out to drain it, it started smoking. So, I ended up spending an hour mopping out the room and buying a new washer :( Though, I can't complain too much. I only paid $50 for the thing and it lasted me about seven to eight years.

No washer troubles lately, thank goodness. *knocks wood* But years ago when we lived in a basement apartment, I had just put the baby to bed, put a load of diapers in to wash and was getting ready to watch Brisco County Jr when I heard a pop and water came rushing into the livingroom from the laundry room. It was a burst washer hose. I spent the night mopping up both rooms. Most appliance mishaps my husband can fix, he just orders the parts on line from repairclinic.com. Handy that man.

When I bought my first house, it was a new gated community type with the laundry space upstairs. I thought it was very convenient, so I went ahead and bought one of the first generation front loading washers from Maytag.

Well, this combination made for some interesting clothes washing. Because the washer sat on what is essentially wood framing and not a solid foundation, the second floor of the house would shake and vibrate during the spin cycle. Evidently, centrifugal force along a horizontal axis on a shakier floor caused the washer to shake and rattle. Not a pleasant experience especially in earthquake country.

I have since moved into another home where the washer/dryer goes in the garage. Haven't felt a tremor since.

My roommate literally vomited when she took apart the washer center (thing that turns the clothes and water around) to clean it. In it was 2 inches thick of soap scum and PILES OF DOG HAIR).

I now feel like my clothes are coming out dirtier than when they went in. :(

I had a horrible time when my washer died...I bought a new one the next day. They told me it was in stock ad that it would be delivered in two days. They didnt show up whent they said they would so I called. It wasnt in stock so I had to wait a week. It came and of course it's broke, which I didnt realize until they left. I call and they come out and say they need to replace it (of course they wanted to charge me for hauling it off-I fought that). The new one was supposed to be in within 3-4 days. I call and its still not in so I ask if I can get a similar washer for the same price (there was only a 50.00 difference) since it was in stock and for all I had to put up with. That was a no go so I told them to get this one and I would go elsewhere. They pick it up and I go for my refund and they told me they never picked it up (of course I had the paperwork to say otherwise). Finally I got my refund and went accross the street and got the washer from there delivered the next day in perfect condition. :?

That's funny, my dryer decided to quit on me the exact same day. I live in an apartment, so I rent my washer/dryer. They repaired it, but they need to clean the outside vent before they can hook up the exhaust hose.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.
