I'm back online (now with 100% more cat)

Post by metheus »

Well, I'm back online. Bought my first house, I got tired of renting and the strange renters that come and go. Anyrate, I thought after I moved, everything with my cable connection was good, plugged it in and it worked, so I cancelled the scheduled re-install. Not sure how it all works but a couple hours after cancelling, sure enough my connection is killed. So I had to reschedule for a week and half later(today).

Anyrate rather than a boring pics of the house, her's some pics of my new cat. Another perk of not renting is that you can have pets : )

Don't worry about it, moonrabitt.

Well, I don't know a whole lot about her. One of my co-workers knew I was moving and was interested in getting a cat. So 2 weeks before I closed on the house he was at home visiting his parents on the farm and his mother had just gotten the cat from a friend who did home health care. Long story made short, the previous owner was an old lady that was going to the nursing home. So my co-worker called me up and said, do you want her, otherwise she's going to become a barn cat. Originally I sort of wanted to go to the humane society and pick out my own cat, but really, for a cat that's always lived indoors, transitioning to a barn is a bad thing. So I agreed to meet her and they offered to keep her for 2 weeks. And now she's my cat : )

The joke for a while there after the move was that she had more furniture than I did(cat carrier, food bowls, cat box, 2 blankets, cat bed, cat castle, etc.).

No clue what her original name was. I've always liked simple names for pets so I'm calling her "Sam." I feel a little bad, but I took her to the vet last week and had her de-clawed in the front. She was really enjoying taking chunks out of the carpet on my stairs and with furniture on order I had to make the choice. She's been coping well, though that newspaper cat liter they tell you to use works pretty bad. She was sneezing a lot the last couple days but seems to be getting better, I think she caught a cold during her over-night at the vets.

Oh, and got a bigger bed on order. She likes to sleep at the foot, but every now and then falls out of bed heh. Things that go thump in the night.

Congratulations, Metheus! I hope you and your new companion bond for life.

Just go very easy with Sam for several weeks, because a Siamese I once knew who was declawed learned to bite to defend himself and did so very painfully (twisting his head in the process to leave a pretty good imitation of a claw mark) at unexpected moments.

Our present cat came to us declawed and had probably been hassled by kids afterwards, as it took us a while to get him to let us pat him without biting. He still does, but in a loving, playful way.

But I'm sure you're a gentle, considerate partner. Siamese have wonderful vocabularies, too, which I'm sure you'll pick up quickly.
