Did anyone see the lunar eclipse?

Post by Keropi »

I woke up 2:22AM this morning and caught some of the total lunar eclipse. It was placed very high in the sky here. I didn't see much color to it. I saw a slight orange tint to it, but hardly any. The southwestern edge was still bright around 2:25 AM when I snapped these quick, mediocre photos with my point and shoot:

Behold! The blurry moon behind a power pole and tree:

A more distant shot of the moon's waning southern edge:

Later the moon darkened down and the bright edge became dark. But even during totality I could barely catch any orange color. The moon remained rather easy to see in the sky. So overall this felt like a fairly average total lunar eclipse appearance-wise - it wasn't too dark or very bright, but somewhere in the middle. :shrug

Someday I'll buy a digital SLR and be able to take REAL digital pictures of such things. :emb

at 5:42am there were clearish skies by my folks house, and I woke up and went out to look at the moon, hoping to snap some pics of it. But it wasn't dark/bright red enough for my camera to get a good shot of it. Then when I went back out 45mins later at what was supose to be the peak colour for the moon... the skies were cloud covered, and it was nothing but grey everywhere i looked. =(

I've been wanting to buy a digital SLR, but like almost everything else, that is going to have to go on the back burners.

I saw it announced on the local news and then totally forgot about it. But when my husband woke up for work this morning, I saw the last little bit of it.

Had to make a flight this morning, and our place just doesn't have good viewing skies. :bawl (Lotsa gorgeous trees though. )
I'm afraid my skywatching equipment is going to collect a lot of dust here in Orlando. :(

It started at 7:45pm here in Australia and was pretty amazing. They even covered it live on Foxtel (Cable TV) for those who couldn't be bother to walk outside!

I didn't even know there was going to be one. :bwall I saw one a year or two ago which was the first I ever saw and that was by chance. Hopefully next year I'll remember to catch it.

I was going to watch it but it decided to rain at my house. I can't complain though. We're in a serious drought with record setting temperatures so I didn't really mind missing this eclipse.
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!
