Cutiebunny, that is so sweet of you! I just may take you up on the offer later, but I'm good for a little while. Just got back from Disneyland, so while in the OC, I raided Marukai 89 Cent Store (where everything is $1.50 and up) and dragged home a suitcase full of UCC Ice Coffee, panko fakes, daifuku, Botan Ame candy, wasabi powder, curry, dry udon, 6 boxes of Mochiko, cel bags Rinkya gives out, bento boxes, a cool looking rice paddle and a terry toilet seat cover (hey, toilet seats get freezing cold out here). My suitcase was 5 pounds overweight at the airport, so I had to relocate the 1/2 gallon of Aloha Shoyu I had packed away!

Hokkaido chocolates, cream and milk, sashimi, wasabi, strawberry cream daifuku

Most Japanese snacks, sweet or savoury, are great. The packaging is very attractive.

My favorite is definitely okonomiyaki. I wish there were some place I could get it around here, other than having to cook it in my kitchen. It's a big pain since I don't use enogh cabbage other than in the okonomiyaki to justify buying a whole head. I hate throwing food away.

I also LOVE mochi. I don't have a grill, so instead one of my absolute favorite things to do is to buy kiri mochi and aji nori for onigiri, stick the block of mochi on the nori and put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. It's so warm and soft and yummy! I also love regular or warabi mochi with kinako, and ohagi, daifuku, dango, etc. I also love manju, especially freshly made warm manju. And there's also another dessert - I can't remember what it was called, but it was sort of a clear jelly-like daifuku (not sure if it was warabi mochi or something else, but yummy). Another great thing is Mont Blanc (momburan) from a Japanese bakery.

I also love oden, especially the egg, daikon, and konnyaku. There's nothing better on a chilly day.

Lol! Just noticed that this was an old post I responded to long ago. Oh well, still makes me hungry again.

I love anpan- sweet bean rolls! They are so fluffy and have the perfect amount of sweetness. I live near Mitsuwa Marketplace in Chicagoland, and I always get drawn into the goodies at their Pastry House Hippo. Especially when they bake the pan in shapes like Doraemon and Hello Kitty :D
