<-------- That's Rusty boy, BTW. :)

I have a dilemma.

See, my husband and I have three cats, two female and one male. The girls are fixed, and my male is next in line. He is almost 7 months old and he is very weird.

While my girls urinate in their litter boxes, Rusty refuses to do so. He'll go #2 in them, but peeing just isn't his thing. Instead of using the box, he'll relieve himself in the other corners of the storage room. I did put some extra boxes in the other corners, but that didn't solve anything. Thankfully, he doesn't pee anywhere else in the house, just in the designated room. Also, he meows while he urinates. So now I have to make a mess, pouring cat litter in the other three corners so he doesn't. It's really getting outta control.

So I am just curious as to why he does that? Will getting him neutered remedy the situation? If he does have a urinary infection, why would that lead him to pee in just the corners? Have you heard of anything this bizarre? Any suggestions as to what I should do?

THAT IS SO STRANGE!!! Kinda cute at the same time though. LOL

I have a cat that does something strange too. It is actually the cat I had to get surgery for. He NEVER uses the litter box. In fact he will meow and meow and meow and get pissy and if you dont let him out, he will find a towel on the ground or a rug and just crap on it. Never on the carpet though... (i guess he considerate enough NOT to do that LOL). Now that he has had his surgery(which he was fixed long ago though) we can not let him outside. We were scared that this could become a very messy situation but he uses the litterbox just fine now.

Maybe the surgery will just change him? That is what happened to our cat...

have you ever caught him using the restroom in the corner? You could always watch for him to do it and then catch him and move him to the box anytime you catch him in the act. So strange.... ~_~ Maybe he has had a bad experience with the litter boxes while urinating? o_O

It sounds like hes marking his territory so once hes fixed it may help. I have seen this behavior in cats before good luck. P.S. sometimes if to many cats are using 1 box they tend to go elsewhere have you tried another box somewhere else in the house?

If this is something has has only been happening recently then it could be a possible urinary track infection. Check to see if he is straining to urinate and peeing frequently. Sometimes if it's painful you may hear a yowl or something to that extent. Also, he is at the age now for hitting 'puberty' so he may be selecting those specific areas to mark his territory. Male cats usually call when they are in search of a female. Neutering him will probably help the situation.

Of course, he may just be an oddball, lol. My sister has two male cats that are around the same age as your boy. One has a bizarre behavior in where his pooper becomes pooched and you smell this horrible ass smell. We have no idea why the stinker does this. At first I thought it because he needed to take a minute to just go use the litterbox but when he is relaxing or being loved on this happens. He is an extremely gorgeous cat with an unusually marvelous gray color and it's a shame he has to have such an oddity about him. :P I'd love him more when I'm over for a visit if he wasn't so stinky!

EDIT

When you take him to the vet to be neutered I would ask the vet to check his urine for infection (aka: the UTI or bladder infection) and let them know of his behavior with the litterbox. They should have some great advice for you as well.

Yes I did try that, but he still would go to the storage room to urinate. :x

Nah, he's done this since he was just weeks old. When I put litter in the corners, he'll gladly pee on the litter, but he just won't use the box! Stupidhead cat...

Maybe that's why no one comes to visit me at home - my sister came over last night and complained of the smell, but I am trying really hard to fix that. Ugh!

Thanks guys. It does look like neutering may fix this problem.

Some cats are weird like that.

There are sprays you can buy that are to keep them from those areas and off furniture.

oh course just placing a low voltage electical source in that corner would also cure it fast :deek

deepquarq has a point. He might feel unwelcome in the "girl's box" and is using the a spot he feels comfortable with.

At the same time, though, he could have some health problem since he's meowing when he goes. Or could be just his way of saying "I feel insecure about this whole situation".

Of course, there's always the third option: I'm doing this cuz I know it drives the humans crazy! :)

meh. With cats, it's a loose guess at best, but the vet can help with the problem. I would definitely get a second box and have him checked for a UTI.

Good luck!

Ow! That's mean! Just seeing my goat get his nose close to the electric fence makes me wince. :hurt:

Thanks so much for all your responses. I think I'll go the way of the vet and have a talk with him to find out why Rusty is being retarded. I do have two litter boxes and the girls don't chase him away when he uses them. I wish I knew what he was thinking...

Rusty looks like a cool cat, nice avatar!
I agree with what the others have said regarding the neutering. Get this done, JMK, and it should curb his evil animal ways.

However, one of my male cats [despite being neutered] has similar behaviour. He will sometimes wail loudly if he wants to go out or wants attention/food and he has urinated in the house. I take this as a sign of bordom or protest.
On the few occasions he has peed in the house, it's happened because we introduced a new object into the house- something like a piece of furniture or moved something indoors from outside- something that has a different smell he's not used to. It makes him anxious and he pisses on/around it to mark it as being in his territory.
I've seen him do it too and it's not a 'squat down' position but he stands tall on all fours like a wild cat. Because of this pose, I know it's to do with marking territory.

Hey :)

I had a cat that would use the litter box all the time just wouldnt pee in it also. He started when he was a few months old. He also would meow while peeing as well. So I took him to the vet and found out that he had a urinary track infection. An the vet I took him to told me that alot of cats will go and pee on something of a lighter color to try and show you that something is wrong. Im not saying thats what your cat has however it does sound the same. If you think that might be it you should get it checked out because the cat will have to be put on meds for a week or so.

Also I do agree with the others. Getting him fixed should help with the spraying. "Most" male cats will stop spraying after they get fixed.

You could also try getting a new litter box. An put it in one of the spots he likes to pee in. There are cats out there that wont use the same littler box as another cat. Bad thing is if thats the case you cant let your girls use that littler box because he might stop using it if they do.

But if you are already taking him to the vet to get him fixed. You might as well ask them to check him for a urinary track infection. Thats what it seems like to me.
