It's a boy! 3mm in diameter. Kidney Stones suck.

Post by blueheaven »

I woke up on Sunday with i nagging pain in my lower back on my left side. In two hours, it turned into a constant aching pain. I called a friend who drove me to the local QuikCare. After three hours of tests and waiting, they told me what I already knew: kidney stones. So, they sent me to the hospital to get a CT scan of my inards. Mind you, this started at 7:30am. I got to the hospital at 2:30pm. By then, I could not sit or stand. They gave me nothing for the pain at all. I waited in the emergency room going from doubling over to leaning back. Finally, at 6pm, they got me a bed to lay down on. At 7pm, they gave me Toradol for the pain. Good stuff. Got a CT scan and boom, turns out that the stone was not too big to pass. They sent me home at 9pm with Ibuprofen, Lortab, and an antibiotic and I passed the stone an hour later. I must say, that this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had medically.

Anyone else been blessed with little bundles of joy?

Thankfully not, but i just pooed myself thinking about how bad that must be.

So sorry for you. My dad had them about 4 years ago and the agony he went through will not be forgotten.

Time to start drinking 6 litres a day i think.

Sounds like you were lucky - some kidney stones stick around for ages. XD I know a few peeps who couldn't pass for weeks...

Glad you're feeling better, though!

its doubly-worse foir a man!
*big hugs*
:friends: :friends:

I wish you a speedy recovery babe!
:hurt: :hurt:

There were nights I writhed in pain and poor Ray
would drive me to ER constantly. :bawl
I think most of my close friends here know
that I spent much of 1yr out in the hospital or
Dr's office because of my kidneys.

Now I got a filtered showerhead, drink 2 glasses
of cranberry juice a day, take cranberry pills, and ONLY
have aquafina bottled water to prevent any
kinda of stones or kidney infection.

It's the same in Vegas. Hard water everywhere. I only drink Arrowhead bottled. I drink about eight glasses a day and my milk consumption is not too bad. But yeah, time for cranberry juice every day. Six months! That must have been a marble sized one. Damn. Well, at least child birth wont be a shock for you. My friends told me that it is the only thing a guy can say he experienced that is even close to child birth. I still don't believe that. Hurt like hell, though.

I feel for ya Brian. It's painfull I know that! *hugs*

I've been there and still there for the last 21 years every six month I pass them. I got right now a 1cm (for me usual from tiney to 1cm and yes any size above 2mm can hurt due to touching "wall") one in my kidney that is stuck and urologist doesn't wanna do lithotripsy till it comes off the wall and goes down since it's in the upper part of kidney stuck, but knowing from past experience it will go down and then either pass with lots of pain or get stuck and another "surgery". *sigh*

I keep drinking lemon water and watch my oxylate intake as I was told.

I'm glad yours passed so quickly. I know it's painful! *hugs*

Drink lots of water, at least 8 glasses a day. Avoid dark soda's and with caffeine in them. Clear soda's are ok!

Wow. Hearing these stories, I figure I got off light. All I can hope is that this is the worst that it gets. I know they say that if you have one, you will have more. However, I think I'll take them small.

Cranberry juice and cranberry pills helps my wife as well, plus helps her menstral cycle. I once made the mistake of buying Ocean Spray cranberry cocktail instead of the 100% juice X| I was smart enough to go into the car quickly and drive back to the store :D

I've never had them, but my mom has. She had some kind of sonic thing that broke up the stones so she could pass them - had to have it done a couple of times. She couldn't really feel them though - one of the few good things about having MS.

Holy crap sweets! O_O
Thats awful :O :O

*big hugs to you!!*
:friends: :friends:

Any idea whats causing it to reoccur so frequently???
O.O
Shamps: so the cranberry juice is helping you?
OH yea! /ok
But even more so than the juice-- definetely the
cranberry pills! They sell them at pharmacy in the vitamin aisle
they really are a life-saver!
I think each pill contains 2 glasses of cranberry concentrate.
I just take 2 pills after a meal once a day and I'm set.

Also, if you feel a bladder or kidney infection coming on
one thing thats helped me w/ the pain is taking 1 teaspoon of baking
soda and mixing it with a glass of water and drinnking 2 of the "cocktails"
Its nasty but works!

Yeah they did testing on all the stones over the years and they always different except for one thing the calcium is always the same. But otherwise it's always different with the "add ons" sometimes it's protein, other times it's just more calcium or less calcium in stone and more of one then the other. They did testing and my body produces a lot of high oxalate for some reason and they thought it was the food but it's not. I even watch what I eat that has high oxylate in it and still get them. Plus it's in my genes. My dads side has them and my aunt lived with huge stones passing every year like me till she passed away a few years ago. Just strange that it's just the female side though. :shrug
The urologist here finally told me to get off all my medications that I was put on over the years and just drink water with lemon in it and just eat in moderation. Just like you suppose to eat my the "pyramid" just make sure not to overeat on spinach, tomatoes, carrots, certain fruits and vegetables. Caffeine produces stones so try to avoid it, but I can have two drinks a day with caffeine in it. Just have to make sure one cup of coffee equals 2 cups of water, meaning I have to drink 2 cups either before or right after to "flush".
Long time ago (over 15 years ago) they told me to avoid calcium due to the stones are made out of calcium (which I did for 10 years), now "newer" studies say you fight calcium with calcium so drink a glass of milk and eat your diary products in moderation of course as you suppose to. But I still have to watch my oxalate intake which is in a lot of foods, luckly not in the ones I like except for coffee. :(
I got a list that I made of all that I can eat, watch what I eat and can not touch. I carry it with me all the time. If you interested I can send you the list so you can look at that since you had a stone yourself.

I have to talk to my urologist if it's ok to take the pills and drink cranberry juice, since it has quiet a bit of oxalate in it. I suppose to only have Cranberry juice three to five times a week a small glass.

1 teaspoon of baking soda mixed with a glass of water? So you drink two of those and you ok?

Okay now I'm concerned. I flushed out my water heater weekend before last and realized how hard our water is where I live, I'm on a well DUH!

And now I find that hard water contributes to these things? Crap.
