Never did quite get the reason there are "days" like this. If you're a man, and you're smart, you treat every day like it's girl's day. Kind of like Mother or Father's day. Or Black History month. Not like I am going to be neglectful and racist for the rest of the year. Oh well. Treat your ladies right, fellas.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

When I was a kid I used to get a little money on Boy's Day. My sister would get some money on Girl's Day.
I used to see a number of koi banners flying on poles in Gardena, California (where I used to live) back in the 1970s. Gardena had the largest concentration on Americans of Japanese decent outside of Hawaii. Celebrating Girl's Day and Boy's Day at the time was more likely to be celebrated by those who came from Hawaii. They were the ones more likely to be closer generationwise to their original Japanese immigrant relatives so they were more likely to celebrate it or at least make some note of it to those of us who came after them.
My aunt mentions these days much more often than my mom (her sister). My aunt married a guy that was born in Japan. He moved to Hawaii as a teenager and served in the US navy. My aunt was always closer to Japanese traditions than the rest of us. She had a traditional Japanese wedding which was only the second one I know of that any of my relatives had (out of about 200 of my relatives under the age of 75 I mean).
