*Toll then ended up to Around 103 dead (last time I checked around 1a.m)

Scary @_@
Some say that life is like a box of chocolates, I say life is like a box of cake.
It's certainly no joke: as anyone who remembers having influenza knows. I get my shot every year (though, apparently, this year's shot won't protect against this strain). Also, my grandmother (who lived in Baltimore) died in the 1917 pandemic, and my grandfather was so seriously affected that he too died a few years later of heart disease. My mother was just a small child, but she could vividly remember the wry little jump-rope rhyme her friends chanted to celebrate the horror:
I had a little bird
And its name was Enza
I opened up the window
And in flew Enza!
So keep the doggone window closed! And wash your hands!
I just thought it was eerie that I had the description up on this page back in February 2007, long before this epidemic was brewing. Sure teaches you not to huff that "new cel smell" when you open the cel bags.
I always thought it was interesting that the 1917 flu pandemic was so overlooked, half the people you talk to have never heard of it! We watched a video about it in one of my history classes and they had children singing that song in it, very creepy.
Hopefully people can learn from history and remember to wash their hands and take reasonable precautions.
There was fear of a swine flu outbreak in 1976, because I was pregnant with my daughter at the time. There have been cases of it in NYC, but it's really not any more virulent than Asian flu or any number of influenza viruses. They can all be deadly if you're at risk (elderly, very young or have an affected immune system). You just have to watch for the symptoms and get to a doctor if you get really sick.
I think the Mexican people just don't have good health care, or they're too poor to pay for it. I feel bad for them.
Wash Your Hands
Wash Your Hands
and then Wash Them Again
i think its a little early for it to be called a "crisis" but if it makes people
a bit more aware, so be it. The media tends to over-do things at times....
Did I mention Wash Your Hands?
