I haven't thought of Dr. Who in years! Thanks Monkeyboy for posting this thread. I have one of those nifty boxes that tape shows from my cable company and I just got through watching the first 2 episodes. Very nostalgic!

Actually I think that is part of the fun for non-brits. I thought this Dr. Who also fit in quite well. Too bad they didn't sign him up for an extended run.

I wouldn't worry too much about that because the nexte one, David Tennant, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0855039/ has already passed his test with flying colours in The Christmas Invasion, which has of course some fantastic writing in it too :

Sycorax Leader: I can summon the armada and take this world by force!

The Doctor: Well, yeah, you *could*, you could do that, course you could, but *why*? Look at these people, these human beings, consider their potential. From the day they arrive on this planet and blinking, step into the sun, there is more to see than can ever be seen, more to do... no, hold on... sorry, that's the Lion King... but the point still stands! Leave them alone!

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

Hard to believe, but I liked it even better the second time 'round! :) Christopher Eccleston really does grow on you as the Doctor, though I agree that I would have liked some odd "signature" clothing piece rather than the normal GQ look.... he needed a 50ft. scarf or a sprig of celery or something! ;) I was also bummed the first time when they said that Gallifrey and all the other Time Lords were gone. Some of my favorite old episodes involved those snobby Gallifreans when the Doctor had to get dragged back to his home planet. But don't you think that somehow, sometime, they will have to bring them back?? Like some plot twist that someone had tricked the Doctor into thinking his home planet was destroyed and that he was alone when REALLY Gallefrey was just hidden by some malevolent power behind some larger planet in an alternate universe or something?? (Can you tell I've watched a bit TOO MUCH sci-fi? :emb heehee!) I just have a hard time believing that they will leave Gallifrey and all its inhabitants dead-and-gone. Guess I'll have to wait and see! :)

P.S. And was Toxic really by Brittney Spears?? I was so happy listening to "Tainted Love" that I guess I didn't notice any recent tunes playing on the jukebox! :(

There are other Gallifreans ? (I'm asking the question here, just ot see if anyone can beat Shellie to the punch :D)

And what are they called than ? If The Doctor is The Doctor, are the others The Butcher, The Baker, The Policeman etc... ?
And would The Surgeon outrank The Doctor ?

heehee! Sorry I took so long to get to your question, Gabe! I saw it about 10 minutes after you posted then, just cuz I'm obstinent, I thought I wouldn't answer until other people had a go at the answer! :) But since no one stepped up to the plate... YES, there are certainly other Gallifreans! A whole planet full! The Time Lords are a marvelously snobby lot, and The Doctor was a bit of a renegade who kinda stole his Tardis just to zoom around the universe and get away from them. If you really want details of some of the episodes where he interracts with his fellow Time Lords, let me know. I don't want to bore everyone out of their socks here. :)

And as for their names, most of the Time Lords have for-real names, except the Doctor's nemesis, who is just "The Master." As a matter of fact, if I remember correctly what I watched over 2 decades ago, I think in one episode, The Doctor is made President (or chancellor?) of Gallifrey, and during the swearing in ceremony, they actually say part of his name! I'd have to go back and check if I'm remembering that right.

And to answer your second post, YES, I definitely prefer the outfit of the next incarnation of the Doctor! His outfit has definite panache!! :D (I love the episodes where the newly-regenerated Doctor picks out his wardrobe!)

Lol I didn't step-up because it has been :jaw 20 years or so since I've seen those episodes! My mind is fuzzy too much TV watching by me!

Funny, now I watch so many anime shows. Back in the 80's I watched a lot of BBC via PBS and cable. Sci-fi like Dr. Who, Red Dwarf and The Prisoner (with the bearded guy who did an intro/explanation to each episode). Comedy, The Blackadder (all the time periods), French and Saunders, Fawlty Towers and Are you Being Served?.
PBS Mystery and Masterpiece Theater new and old shows. Shows Like Oliver Cromwell, Upstairs, Downstairs, Brideshead Revisited and Jeeves and Wooster (okay 1990 for that). Hum, there are others but I can't remember everything. X|

So great job remembering shellie! :D

:emb Thanks, monkeyboy! :D It really is hard to believe how long ago it was when I watched a steady diet of Dr. Who on PBS. And you are a tv-watching man after my own heart!! Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Jeeves and Wooster, Are You Being Served... man, now THOSE are shows! :D (IGWT also shares the same taste in television shows. We should start a club! ;)) I'd gladly trade in every single current crime show, lawyer show, and reality show for some of those great old British comedies.
