Check out Access Hollywood's segment about TF the movie. Provides a
first glimpse at an animated storyboard and some on set shooting.

Here are some more pictures.

And now for some shots of the new movie-based toy line:

Megatron!

Finally, here is the list of confirmed characters from an interview:
Autobots:
Optimus Prime - Classic Prime type character. True hero of the Autobots.
Bumblebee - Underdog type character. The scout. Smallest of the gang. (Spike mentioned)
Jazz - Rock n' roll style character.
Ratchet - New form. Emergency vehicle. Medical officer/Science officer. Repairs Transformers injured in battle.
Ironhide - Optimus' oldest friend. Gritty

Decepticons:
Megatron - Survival of fittest. Less idealistic version of humanity.
Starscream - 2-faced. Secretly plotting to overthrow Megatron. Doesn't neccassarily want Megatron's duties, but wants to be leader.
Brawl - Pissed off Decepticon. Heavy lifter. One of the first ones not from G1. More experemental with Decepticons. More G1 styled characters to come with sequals.
Bonecrusher - Closest to constructicon. Hates all other Decepticons except for Megatron.
Barricade - Hunter type. Cop car, likes to get to things first.
Skorponok - closest to a beast era type of character.
Frenzy - Character who evolved from Soundwave. Had contradictions to the original Soundwave, so they changed him to Frenzy. Smaller form. Stealth spy.
Blackout - Takes out ability to fight back. Likes to pulse blast electronics. First tier attacker. Transport, one of the biggest decepticons in the movie.
I love the radical new designs. They remind me of transmetal Beast Wars.
It seems this movie will be very damn cool. The mixture of practical shots
and CGI effects should look very nice once complete. It's interesting to
note that there are more Decepticons than Autobots. Also, the lack of
Devastator and Soundwave in the line-up is interesting and contrary to
what was originally stated. I'm guessing they are saving these characters
for the sequel.

I was dragged out of bed this morning to see this trailer. Apparently it's attached to Night at the Museum, if anyone wants to see the trailer in theatres. I knew this movie was going to be good and that trailer proves it. Pop-corn flicks are my favorite, just pure action with non-sense and lots of fun. The organically designed make overs absolutely work for this movie.

I can't wait to see it! :bounce

And you know it's going to do well, so expect a trilogy or something to spawn from this. Or as many sequels as the general public will consume.

Saw Transformers last night at an early screening. Oh. My. God! It's soooo good. It doesn't have a life altering plot, nothing to write home about certainly, but it's not supposed to be about that. It's a big, fun, action movie, through and through. I haven't cheered and laughed and screamed so much at a movie in a very long time. The audience had a lot of energy because the movie was kinetic. Whew. Big robots and big battles, what more could you ask for? TFs fans and action movie fans should definitely see it as soon as it comes out. I wrote a longer review of the movie here.

I'm so glad it didn't suck. :o

I saw it too! I was completely expecting it to be a bad movie. I mean, it seems SO easy to mess up Transformers! But they didn't! The movie was awesome! I didn't expect it to be so funny, and I'm pretty sure that they used the original voice actor from Transformers for Prime's voice. Who else can sound THAT COOL!?

Overall I'd give the movie an A-. MERELY because it isn't perfect but it didn't really seem to matter much.

I rewatched it again today with a less energetic crowd, but I still enjoyed the movie just as much. Prime's (original and movie) voice is Peter Cullen, even though Megatron is not voiced by Frank Welker. Which is a shame, really. Hugo Weaving didn't bring much to the role, despite the overall lack of Megatron centric dialogue. He came off a lot like Beast Wars Megatron (not Beast Wars Neo).

There's a lot left unanswered for sequels. Will Megatron return as Galvatron? What happened to Barricade? They buried Jazz in the comic adaptation, but could he return in the movies? Why was Arcee cut from the final roster? Hope she shows up in the next movie (parts 2 and 3 have already been green lighted).

Brawl was mistakingly referred to as Devastator. The studio said this was a legit mistake and not a rename, so I wonder, will Devastator not appear in the next movie? And will the DVD release correct this error or will they just run with it? I love the Contructicons and hope to see bigger transformers in the next installments.

When you think about exactly how bad this movie could have been, it's a freakin' miracle it was tolerable much less enjoyable. Everything managed to come together and it really worked. I loved it.

I've already seen it a couple of times as well and totally agree that it came off far better than I anticipated (even with all the hype).

1st time I saw it and heard Cullen's voice in the beginning my friend elbowed me in the shoulder and gleefully told me that I had gone slack-jawed. Having his voice really did make all the difference IMO. And I agree that not having Welker's voice as Megatron was a detriment, as well as not enough screen time for the Decepticons in general. All-in-all, I was 10 years old again for 2 and a half hours (both times) - and really, what more could you ask for?Image

Well, I'm a little late to the party, but my wife and I finally got to see a movie since right before my wife got pregnant. So with our 10 month-old at her grandparents, we went to see Transformers.

Very cool movie. I agree with all the previous reviews stated earlier in the thread. Really, all I wanted out of this movie was to hear the transformation sound. Once I heard it (and it sounded good), I didn't care what else happened. Prime's original voice was icing on the cake.

For these old eyes, it was a little hard to follow the battle scenes, but the almost Matrix-like, smooth moves of the Autobots during the fights was pretty sweet.

Can't wait for the sequel. Hopefully the three of us can go watch it by then.
