I eat meat. I grill steak and fish and chicken for a restraunt.
That being said: There are 6 essential amino acids (proteins) that you cannot extract from non meat sources no matter what you try. Being a vegetarian while pregnant is actually hurting the growth of the baby, don't ever let ANY vegan tell you otherwise.
Our digestive system is set up to digest meat. Salad helps keep you regular because we lack sertain enzymes that break down certain plant cells. We literally don't digest salad, it's just more stuff in our intestines that keep the bacteria moving.
We also have canine teeth.
Being a vegetarian is like running a high octane engine on low octane fuel, sure it works, but it's not the best for it.
Also along the lines of what Brian was talking about I highly recommend reading: http://www.petakillsanimals.com

Unfortunately for me I don't ingest much plant material.
As far as plants go, I mainly only eat corn and potato stuff (and sometimes soft carrots). If some lettuce comes with a dinner or hamburger I'll usually eat it. Sometimes it's nasty or soggy so I'll remove it and place it on the side of the plate.
Oh...I eat cashews, peanuts and Kyoto chlorella too.
I eat bread, pasta and tofu too, but we're really getting away from the original source material now.

Nah I like the thought of animals being destroyed to feed me far too much to stop devouring our fleshy friends!
On a more serious note and speaking of vegans my friend recently turned vegan, and it's made me realise just how much you have to watch your diet if your going to make such choices, since he really doesn't look at all healthy. That said his girlfriend's been a vegan for a few years and she's as effortlessly beautiful as she's always been.

Are you serious? A lot of people like that. I'm not sure if I like the thought of animals being destroyed to feed me far too much to stop devouring our fleshy friends. What is it like?

I was a vegetarian for 10 years or so but, I'm started eating fish in the last year to get my protein levels up but, I still don't eat shellfish, red meat, or poultry. One of the main reasons being that my Grandparents raised animals for meat on their farm and I just couldn't deal with taking care of the animals and getting to know them for a year and then eating them. I'm the only vegetarian I personally know though so I'm fine with other meat eaters. I've always thought that on the whole what you wish to do with your body is your business.

Being a vegan is a personal choice- my brother is one. But I don't appreciate vegans who try to defend their personal choices with incorrect/false evidence. There are several important proteins, acids and enzymes that you just absolutely cannot get from a strictly vegetable diet. I also don't appreciate vegans who openly condemn me with terms such as 'murderer' for eating meat. Human beings are by nature ominvores. They may not be very sharp and pointy, but you do have canine teeth as well as flat molars in your mouth. Whether by evolution or created in God's image- human beings were meant to eath both meat and vegetables/fruits.
I sincerely love animals and donate to groups such as the SPCA, and have pet rats, a house rabbit, and both an adopted dog and wolf. But my love for animals is not going to change the fact that they are part of the food chain. It's simple nature- not morals. Besides, animals eat other animals. How come we never put them on trial? Just because we are more 'advanced' in many ways means we should have some kind of self-absorbed ideal as to what is right and what is wrong when it comes to something as simple as eating meat? I love my pet rats, and while it does make me squeamish to visit friends who feed rats to their pet snakes...hey, a snake has gotta eat too, right? Pure nature. I'm not going to hold it against the snake. So one shouldn't hold it against other human beings because they eat meat with reckless abandon.
I do have to admit what I don't get is how so many vegans say they are so happy to not eat meat, and can totally live without it, but yet they are always developing new ways to make themselves feel like they are eating meat products; ie. bocaburgers, those veggie hot dogs, etc. etc. I have a sneaking suspicion some of them really want to eat meats, but they just can't handle the guilt. ^_~x Two Thanksgivings ago, I caught my brother in the kitchen in the middle of the night, shoving small scraps of leftover turkey into his mouth in the dark. I have a feeling he really wanted to eat it, but didn't want to any of the family to see him doing it, especially since he had spent the past couple of years trying to "convert" the lot of us. I never told him that I saw him, because I didn't want to hurt his pride. LOL. Anyway...
Hmm...I'm actually surprised by the amount of fellow meat-eaters in this thread. I thought that in our overly-PC world, being a Vegan was the thing to do, and eating meat was the new taboo. Hello fellow meat-eaters! Perhaps we should have an Anime Beta barbecue!! ( Everyone's invited. Vegans, just bring your bocaburgers and veggie dogs along ). ^_~x
Take everything I say with a grain of salt
Anyway, choice is choice. I don't really think anyone should be lampooned for it either way. So either eat your salad or eat your cheeseburger and keep sniper-outbidding me on cels
And oh yeah, someone mentioned PETA. Couldn't agree with you more. I think PETA sets the animal rights movement back, and not forwards. They are extremists, and over the years, they are being taken less and less seriously. If you want to help animals, donate to local zoos and sanctuary facilities, or foster animals too sick to be put up for adoption anytime soon, or donate to shelters or animal rescue groups, or adopt one or sponsor one from afar. Plenty of constructive things to do.

I couldn't agree with you more, Maiko, you make tons of valid points. I'm a total meat-eater, always have, always will be. But I did have one point where I thought about being a vegetarian because I love animals, but that thought only lasted a few days.
We are just simply designed to be omnivores. That's the structure of our teeth...many animals are just like us, but in order to survive you need a mixture of things. It's all already been described and said so I will not repeat it here. I just get tired of the extremists that tell me I'm a animal-killer and scoff...I love animals. I have 4 birds, but that doesn't stop me from eating chicken.
On a final note, PETA sucks. Adopt, give to charity, or donate...at least you know your money is going to a worthy cause.
