I understand: when I was an undergrad. I stumbled off a curb and did nearly the same thing. Huge puffy swelling, crutches, etc. And I lived a mile and a half from classes, which were all in an up-and-down-hill campus. It was hard, but I learned to cope. Just insist on accommodation. I still remember the vague looks I got from my roommates when I asked who would be willing to drive me in to campus tomorrow. An awkward pause, then suddenly everyone was talking about something else. In the end, I really had to read the riot act: like it or not, you need help, and so don't at all feel bad about yelling and screaming until you get it.

At least it's not like being hearing-impaired; then, no matter how carefully you explain, people just assume that you're either stupid or deliberately ignoring them. Crutches at least inspire sympathy from enough people to get you through.
I just do not want to take heavy duty painkiller (a doctor said she can give me some prescribed pain killer but I just did not want to
Um, I would say go with the prescribed pain killer rather than risk an OTC overdose. Yeah, they have bad reputations because people steal them and use them to get high. But when they are used to kill pain, you don't get addicted to them, just like people don't get addicted to pain.

Good luck and let us know what the bruise looks like!

Ouch!

My friend did his leg in recently after he decided to take to the vert ramps on his BMX while utterly plastered on booze. He's now contemplating his rather flawed error of judgement in hospital nursing no less then 3 fractures round his knee poor guy :hurt:. The moral of the story here being dangerous stunts and alcohol really don't mix.

Anyway, your innocent you broke your ankle legitimately (for want of a better turn of phrase) by accident, so I hope it at least has the decency to heal quickly for you!

you'll be back on your feet in no time.

Meanwhile, if ya gotta be inside go ahead and catch up on some anime... perhaps starting with Naruto.
You've got about 6 weeks worth of catching up on that series alone. :P

That really sucks, breaking your ankle. The mobility problems are really an issue especially if you have to attend a conference. The other issue would be the swelling and edema if you would not be able to prop your ankle up during those long seminars...

Speaking as a pharmacist, ibuprofen and other NSAIDs such as naproxen are probably better analgesics for your condition as they will help reduce the peri-injury inflammation. Naproxen which is generic for Aleve can also be taken less frequently than ibuprofen, but both will work. The typical dose of Aleve is 200mg every 8 to 12 hours. However, if you have severe acute pain, opiate combinations such as Vicodin (hydrocodone/acetaminophen) are better.

Good luck and hope the ankle gets better.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
