I think its gotten so pop. they are actually making
a film as we speak adapted from the play.

For JWR, IwakuraLain, and Killua:

When you say the Beatles, which are you referring to?
pre-acid or acid era? :bounce

aka bowl-haircut pop Beatles or Yellow Submarine hipster Beatles?

Also keep a bunch of misc classical & techno on hand, I find it helpful to have on when working on long projects.

Well being a certain age , I can remember sneeking around so I could stay up late to hear them live on the Ed Sullivan show as well as still have their 1st USA album in my collection. :hippy
The fact that as musicians they grew and adapted their music over the years and could come up with music that ran the gamit from ballads to hard rock all with unforgetable lryics make them one of the greatest and most influential groups ever.

I understand what Shampy means, though. Some bands/singers have an era that you love most, even though you love all of their stuff. For me, I would say that I respect the band the Beatles became. At first, they wrote songs that shook things up simply because few could match them at the time. Later, they developed a conscience to their writing.

You could say the same thing about any band.

Which Metallica? Pre or post Black Album?

And for the record, I like ABBA as well.

Exactly!

I see Joe really loves all their phases in the music scene.
I was just curious if the ones that mentioned the Beatles loved them
in one era more than the other or both.

For myself, I only like their later sounds.
Its weird... I absolutely hate the Beatles but adore their
reefer years so much! :love2
I can listen to "A Day in the Life," and "Penny Lane" all
day but would wince and bitch if I had to go thru 30 seconds of
"She loves you"
The same is true in vice versa for my mother. She loves their Beatlemania
sounds but can't stand Yellow Submarine or Sgt. Pepper
We literally couldnt borrow each other's albums even thou
its the same band

:hitting: :hitting: :crackup

And for the record, I like ABBA as well.
Yay! I dont feel so alone now w/ you and Killua
lol!

:hitting:
:cheers

Yes it goes back to being involved with bands , choirs and a music major in college.

There is so much music I enjoy from classical , jazz and rock in all it's forms. Lists you have to choose only 5 make it quite hard for I could easily go from Bach to Green Day. Only music I don't care for is "country-western" which is much different than music of Hank Williams Sr. , Johnny Cash & Patsy Cline I grew up with.

Tom Petty
U2
The Killers
Led Zeppelin
Carole King
It eluded us then, but ...tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms further...and one fine morning- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Maybe an even better question would be pre or post Mustaine?

But yeah, I hear what your sayin' about a band's development. In direct answer to your question, I have all the first print run cd's up to And Justice for All and never purchased anything from the Black Album on because it just seemed like they had sold out - started legendary and ending somewhat mundane. Whereas with the Beatles, I think just the opposite occurred - they grew into themselves and became the Legend. I personally feel the same way about Tool (although it seems that many diehards might tend to disagree).

I couldn't agree more. Hank Williams Sr., Jr. and the III as well as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie are Outlaw country. Country western, or rather Country-Pop, fits right in with current pop trends - it all makes my ears bleed. X|

Such a dastardly question! Only 5?!

Bands:
RIDGE [Swedish Stoner Rock, defunct after 1 album]
FU MANCHU [US Stoner Rock]
ASTROQUEEN [Swedish Stoner Rock]
IRON MAIDEN [UK Metal/Hard Rock]
CLUTCH [US Stoner/Groove Rock]

Individual songs [links are primarily YouTube vidz]:
BRAIN POLICE - Coed Fever
DOZER - Headed For The Sun [This live vid is a crazy jam version]
IRON FIRE - Legend Of The Magic Sword
THE HELLICOPTERS - By The Grace Of God
COUNTACH - Gasoline [link is for MySpace page]

Cool. Transmet voted for Clutch in his top 5 ^__^

I enjoyed all their material post The Black Album, especially Load and Reload with the hard rock/groove vibe. The earlier thrash sound didn't appeal to me.
Out of the gloom a voice said unto me;
"Smile and be happy, things could be worse".
So I smiled and was happy
and behold;
things did get worse...

I am still stuck on the bands I grew up with in the 80's, but I'll listen to pretty much anything except for hard core rap. :D

Here are my top 5 (and this was a tough decision!) :vict

Steve Vai
Rush
Def Leppard
The Police
Eric Johnson
