New Mexico Vacation help??

Considering its a getaway weekend trip, I'd opt for
something where you'd spend the least amount of
time on a plane/car.

Hmm, personally I hate the cold, so any suggestion
I mention would just be warm climate LOL!


Anaheim and San Diego is pretty, as is Phoenix.

Chicago is nice weekend trip but definitely not in
December, unless you enjoy 15 degree
weather @_@

Oh man, thanks everyone for your suggestions and replies -
everywhere looks so fun and awesome

We did take advice though about driving instead of flying.
And in doing that , we are going on a 7 day road trip through New Mexico!
(seems like a popular place lol)

So now, if anyone has suggestions what to do there that would be great!

We plan on going to:
Roswell

Roswell is very touristy, so don't expect much out of that locale except some funky UFO souvenirs.

If you're into art, I'd suggest swinging by Taos, which has a large artists community.

Keep in mind that whatever happened in Roswell in 1947 took place about 75 miles northwest of the town. Roswell happened to be where the military base was that investigated. I'm mostly convinced that the story was successful disinformation (similar to other rumors used to keep the early A-bomb tests quiet) to deter people from noticing the trial tests of the military's captured Nazi U2 missiles. (Oh, so you're one of those loonies who are seeing UFOs in the sky ... har har har har!)

Knowing America has an infinitely huge banana closet helps politicians and generals deflect attention from really serious problems. Global warming? Inextricably stalled economy? Education record in the bottom quartile of major industrial nations? Our immense indebtedness to China? Oh, look! There's someone running for the Senate in Delaware that once practiced Satanism and now opposes masturbation!

I've enjoyed Albuquerque both times I've visited: the selection of Native American art is amazingly diverse, lovely, and relatively inexpensive. And my wife says the Sandia Peak Tramway is well worth a visit if your stomach isn't bothered by heights.

New Mexico is in my top 2 favorite places to go on vacation in the country!!!

I agree that Taos is worth going to. I also love Acoma and Abiquiu. Ghost Ranch is pretty cool too, that's by Abiquiu. There's some nice low key hiking you can do there.

If you wanted to visit Santa Fe you can make that affordable by staying in a motel that's not in the downtown area (all the hotels in the touristy area are on the pricey side.) You can stay someplace cheap out in the more industrial outskirts and then drive into the city for the art/shopping/etc.

Dang, I could probably reccommend some other places but my memory isn't working this morning....
