I've seen the first episode of Black Cat and although the animation is superb (Gonzo), the style ( a bit Gunsmith Cats like) differs to much from the manga to really attract me to the series at this point.

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

I watched several of the newer shows last night to see how they are and was
pretty much unimpressed.

Black Cat: Has potential, but nothing too special. Will have to pick up fast
or I won't watch more.

Canvas 2: Sort of a typical harem/dating sim show. Just enough potential
in it that I'll watch a bit more.

Mai-Otohime: Ok. Let's take this good show and totally change it into a
generic magical genki girl show. I'll give it another episode or two, but it'll
have to pick up fast or it'll get dropped.

To Heart 2: I consider it an accomplishment that I was able to get through
the entire episode without being bored into a coma.

Oh..and I also watched the latest Gokujou Seitokai.

Heh...I assume the original To Heart bored you also? :P

I think the only ren'ai game anime with some mainstream appeal are To Heart, Kanon, AIR, Shingetsutan Tsukihime and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Comic Party has some too I guess. Maybe Shuffle also. But your reaction is expected.

One of these days I'll have to play that English Ai Yori Aoshi game that came out last month. I'm kind of curious how it went:
http://www.hirameki-int.com/appc/products/ai/index.html
But the game came out a long time after the anime so obviously Ai Yori Aoshi isn't a ren'ai game anime.

Normally I feel very little difference between seeing an episode raw or English subbed. But if I put "watching it unsubbed" there it means that I feel seeing the English sub would make more of a difference than usual in how much I would like it. Overall though it still wouldn't make THAT much of a difference.

Fighting Beauty Wulong 2 (watching it unsubbed - okay/fair - 5.2):
I thought it was okay. This episode wasn't that interesting watching it raw. There's too much plot to watch it raw, but what was there didn't interest me much anyway. It gave me more Yawara vibes than the first episode.

Lamune 1 (fair - 5.1):
http://www.lamune.jp/
I was rather disappointed with this. There wasn't too much in it that interested me. The first episode was mainly centered around Kenji (the main male character) and the main girl Nanami. They were childhood friends and grew up next door to each other. I had a lot of deja vu moments watching this because since Yuko Goto voices Nanami, she's playing a similar character to her Hiyori role in Mizuiro (she also voices Kaede in Shuffle, but let's leave Kaede out of this). Hiyori's and Nanami's positives are that they're upbeat, kind, cute and friendly girls. Their negatives (as far as I'm concerned) is that they were both somewhat mentally slow, naive, helpless and often have semi-crying voices when they're upset or scared. They're not the type of ren'ai game main girl that I get into very much. The other deja vu moment I had with this was when Yuko Goto calls the main male lead "Ken-chan". Both of the male leads in Lamune and Mizuiro were named "Kenji". 8O The story didn't seem very interesting so far and the animation was pretty simple looking. I can't see Lamune having a fraction as many fans for it as To Heart 2 and Canvas 2 will after the first episode. :O

Jigoku Shoujo 2 (decent - 5.6):
More tales of the supernatural. I get a kick out of this series in finding out what the HELL will happen. :evil2 :evilblk But I hope it doesn't become repetitive because it can very easily become that way.

Noein 1 (decent/fairly good - 5.7):
http://www.noein.jp/
I'm not that much into the character artwork for this. Their faces sometimes make me think of other shows such as FLCL, Windy Tales or Mahou Shoujotai. I liked the settings and the backgrounds though. I might like this show. From what I could barely catch a glimpse of there, it appears like a sci-fi/sci-fi fantasy blend. There's definitely some cool stuff there.

Happy Seven 2 (fair - 5.0):
This will be the last episode I watch of this. I'm just not much into it.

Gunparade March 2 (okay/decent - 5.5):
SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 2:
The group that Ishida has to train is very green and she's not a veteran herself either so, as expected, things don't run smoothly and tensions run high.
Not sure if I will watch more of this raw or not. This is not a good series to watch raw. :(

The original To Heart did. But, strangely enough, I really enjoyed the manga as it was paced quite a bit better. After that, I also liked the recent To Heart: Remember My Memories series as well.

Kanan and AIR were both great. Even Baakay liked that one.

Tsukihime had some very good ideas and character designs. I liked it, but was disappointed that they didn't do more with it.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien started off awesome but had a bad ending due to the choices made.
Haruka = good ending.
Akane = perfect ending.
Mitsuki = bad ending.
Heck, even the foul-mouthed Ayu would've been better.
I just finished rewatching Comic Party with a friend the other day.

Shuffle is a current sort of guilty pleasure. Curious to see what will happen. Though, it's pretty much a given that he won't choose the best of the pack of girls (Asa).

Bleach 52 -53; still going strong and the Family Guy Movie, which allowed for more but unnecessary cussing.

What you said was either too complex for me.

Downloaded a bunch of first episodes of new series:

Cluster Edge - Just what my daughter ordered! Surprisingly weak opening montage but lots of cute boy stuff. Final song sung ny the voice actors! Is it my imagination or is this singing seiyuu thing becoming more popular?

Blood + having no previous experience with this story, I have no preconcieved notions. Animation really great. Very creepy story, beginning with lots of bloodletting reminded me of Elfen Lied.

Black Cat- Very slick animation. Funny closing animation. I was a bit confused as to exactly what was happening.

Animal Yokocho- If Chiyo-chan from Azumanga Daioh was given her own show and all the animal toys talked and cracked jokes, this is what the show would look like!

Iggy ? I haven't heard enough about Iggy to have an opinion.

The first "To Heart" anime came the closest to matching the feel of the game. You woke up in the morning to Akari ringing the doorbell. You walked to school with Akari. Maybe you ran into Shiho along the way. After school you might go with Akari, Masashi and Shiho to the arcade, etc. I can understand you liking the pace of the manga since the manga's pace is much quicker than the first series, but it's not like the game at all.
kymaera wrote:Tsukihime had some very good ideas and character designs. I liked it, but was disappointed that they didn't do more with it.
I've heard Tsukihime compared unfavorably in the same vein as Hellsing as what can go wrong when you try to squash a good story into a 12-13 episode short series. X|

LOL...but then you would have had an S&M ending and you wouldn't have been able to air the ending on TV. :D I'm sure you've seen those Ayu figures out there. :P

I didn't care for the ending either and I never liked Mitsuki's character very much. I thought she was a drag. I could understand her acting the way that she did, but she was such a "downer" to me.
kymaera wrote:Shuffle is a current sort of guilty pleasure. Curious to see what will happen. Though, it's pretty much a given that he won't choose the best of the pack of girls (Asa).
Yeah...that's a given. Asa's my favorite character on the show. She's got a great seiyuu voicing her.

Watched Today:

Serenity - I enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun and I liked the message in it too. If there was something about it that I didn't like it was that a few of the jokes felt too much from our own time period.

Aria 2 (okay/fair - 5.2):
This was another fairly slow paced episode. There was some conflict between two of the gondola rowing girls and some history between two other girls revealed. We had more scenes of boat rowing. We had a scene of sipping coffee and a scene of staring at natural beauty. Very laidback atmosphere, but it didn't interest me that much compared to a number of other shows around right now.
