I agree with Klet. A lot of the topic starters and major posters HAVE slowed down a lot in posting. I've about run out of new things to discuss myself. Thinking back on nine years of cel, sketch and anime discussion leaves little room in my brain for coming up with new topics. :(

It feels a bit like it does on the other message board I'm at. We've discussed the same anime for so many years that we've run out of things to discuss. The only hope for our board was for new members to arrive to generate new topics that we hadn't thought of before. But even when new members arrive, 80 percent of the time they bring up the same topics we've discussed ad naseum before and have long since exhausted. The new members quickly drift off...bored and uninterested and the board becomes dead like it was before. :(

I haven't posted as much lately for several reasons:

1. There haven't been many posts that I've been able to comment or say anything on.
2. The "other" message board I'm at has been much busier lately (FOUR active posters compared to our usual TWO :P ). It's imperative that I keep that board going.
3. Quite a few of the Beta members I talk with the most have not been here much lately (excluding Krafty and Metheus). That kind of sucks the enthusiasm away. :?

Wow I'm late to the party, but I've noticed the slowing around here too - I just kinda chalked it up to the weird hosting issues... among other things. I know I'm rather busy at work these days (yep, I visit Beta from work.. hahaha) - plus I moderate another forum which has been having some major issues lately and is demanding my attention. :P

I'm one of the ones who's had a sale post lately.. not because of tax season, but just because I've bid on some rather large lots that I just didn't want the whole thing.

Anyhoo... I hope to see things return to normal around here, too. It's getting too quiet! Oh, and I'll join those of you with little time to keep up on all the new anime that's sparking discussion :D If I'm not working - I'm either scanning or fixing someone's computer these days... hahahaha.

I like the idea of discussing the newer shows too. Not that I can keep up with more than a few of them!

The "What did you watch last" thread is interesting because it reveals that we're all watching shows from all eras. It's also neat to get the updates from people who can see the new stuff the week it airs, and give a general overview. That thread's biggest problem is that there's so much trying to get covered in it that it's more a list than a discussion.

Much to ponder.

Very true about the not enough time to keep up with new shows. Also very true about people leaving. We've had a lot of big collectors just quit the hobby recently. As for Mods closing topics too quick I feel they had no choice when got swarmed with PMs from offended members asking for something to be done. After so many complaints you want to just "turn things off" because you take them personally like it's something that was your fault from the start. Heh. :P All aside Beta has its ups and downs. It has its quiet times and we just revamp and start fresh. Isn't the first time. It just takes members to show us the way and tell us what they want. Then we try to deliver. :) I'm always up for ideas on new areas and orginaztion. I had thought we divide the cels/genga categories by studio instead of shows. Then add newer spots for what's new in anime and such.

I still think this is a much livelier place to hang out than Animanga. See that lately? It's virtually all sale notices with no interaction among posters. Maybe this site has slowed down a bit, but I don't feel it's unhealthy.

Well ... maybe some of the people posting ... but then who am I to speak? I'm the one who got my wife hooked on watching Princess TuTu. (Gotta love a series with a balletic anteater possessed by a magical jewel shard.)

Well if it is me that is a "wet blanket" because of NSP's post, I'd like to think I was more of a moist towelette. You know, kill the germs and leave a flowery smell behind!

Seriously, I had no problem with a discussion about the group, I didn't want to see people trashing the religious aspect of the subject.

We have had members quit due to lack of thought posting and respect for other members own faith choices.

Sorry, I will give everyone more credit next time. :^^:

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult.
I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year-old again.
I want to return to a time when life was simple, when all you knew were
colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother
you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care.
All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all
the things that should make you worried or upset.
I want to think the world is fair.
That everyone is honest and good.
I want to believe that anything is possible.
I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited
by the little things again.
I want to live simple again.
I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth,
justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in
the snow.
So . . . here's my checkbook and my car keys, my credit card bills and
my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood.
And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first,
cause........
......"Tag! You're it."

OMG - Something so lighthearted coming from a mod?? 8O
No wonder its so cold outside - apparantly hell has froze over.

Can I just say "ditto" here? :rollin I love it, Pudge! :)

I just wanted to add that I 100% sympathize with the position the mods here are in. I'm a mod on a computer forum that is filled with young teenage boys who have nothing better to do with their time than play with computers , so I completely understand the frustration that goes along with the moderator's jobs. It's not easy trying to keep everyone happy so that members stay and keep the board alive.

So, mods, feel free to smack me back into place when my 'moderator' mode tries to come out while I'm here... I can think of a recent incident where I sooo should have just kept my big mouth shut :P oh well... :D

It's my turn, it's my turn!

I haven't been around much because my family and myself have taken some hard hits in the family realm lately and we're starting 3 personal business ventures because of it. Add in shift changes at work and connection problems and there you go.

As a community I think the collecting days of old are just that, days of old. Anime or "Japanimation" as it was called back in my day, is no longer the new "thing", Everybody has seen anime now and it's just part of our culture.

Also with the invention of CG and the demise of cels being used on the newest amimation features it's hard to tie the hobby to the newest and greatest shows. Gone are the days you could watch a brand new series get all emotional and on fire for it, then go drop $600 for a cel from your favorite part. I used to love literally owning a piece of the movies that I loved, it was a great feeling. But the farther we get away from 2002 (Marked the death of cels for me) the farther out of touch our hobby becomes from todays generation of otaku.

10 years now I've been into anime! A new regime was bound to take my place :l
