It's an interesting question actually. I think for myself, my gallery and my collection, I would definitely say male.
I think generally as a rule you should probably have a good idea of what gender people are by seeing their gallery and their collection together, as there will be hints of what the person is truly like in there.
I mean shows like Sailor Moon will be primarily collected by girls...but again of course there are always anomalies. It’s difficult to say for definite, but I think you can get a good idea of the sex of the owner, by viewing their collection.

But Ronin....your site features Rurouni Kenshin which means it looks like a girl's!
Actually, with those action oriented shows like Genocyber, Guyver, Hotoko no Ken, Ninja Scroll, Kenshin, and Street Fighter, your collection is exactly what I think of when I think of a guy's site!
(Or used to be...before this thread redefined it.
)
But I think yours is more beautiful than most, with your great Samurai Champloo theme!

I voted no, I concur with JWR sometimes it's dead obvious, but more often then not there are too many androgenous shows to make accurate predictions possible and too many boys collect feminine shows and vice versa. If you were to combine it with layout and what's been written then 80% would I think be possible, though with that said I think it would be pretty obvious from looking at the list of shows on my site that I'm a bloke.

I'm not sure if I ever could combine it with layout and what is been written then 80% would he or she think be possible though with that said he or she think it would be pretty obvious from looking at the list of shows on his or her site that he or she is a bloke in any case.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I voted yes. Remember, we'd all at least get it 50% right just because of chance. There are those who have collections which absolutely defy expectation, but if you're smart enough, have enough experience, and have good intuition, doing just a little bit better than chance should be a breeze. You can still miss 20 out of 100 and have an 80% accuracy rate. Heck, I think if I picked female for all of them without any analysis I could probably get an accuracy rate around 60% or so. Female collectors seem to be more prevalent than male collectors, at least on beta.
If anybody wanted to test this, they could copy down random beta'ers series they collect and see how people guess. Of course you'd have to select the beta'ers randomly and not just cherry-pick those members who have a difficult list.

When I answered the question I was thinking about all the galleries I've visited (maybe about ?1000). I was thinking about all those dead galleries where people only collected about 4 to 10 shows and then stopped collecting. I was thinking about all the collectors who have started within the last year or two, don't have much money and hardly have any titles titles in their collection. Most of them are inactive on Beta.
There are so many galleries where the gallery owner only collected about four shows and mostly concentrated on one. Then there are all those small galleries outside of rubberslug with only links to only a handful of cel pictures. There are the European galleries that might consist of older shows that I'm not that familiar with. It would be harder for me to guess the gender of those owners.
If I included all of these galleries in the total, but could only guess from seeing a list of the shows in them I could probably guess about 60 to 75 percent accuracy. But guessing 80 percent or more accuracy...I don't think so. I don't think I could do that. I've guessed wrong too many times over the years.

I voted "no." With just the names of the series someone collects, I would be hard-pressed to guess gender (let alone sex--which are two different terms in my field of study
).
Honestly, I've seen more girls collecting gundam than guys, and such a mixture of people collecting shounen titles that it would be really difficult to guess based off of titles alone. Yes, layout, characters collected, and comments written will give more clues, but without those clues, I don't think I'd be good at guessing.
Personally, I'd probably guess that someone who collects loli-type shows would be male due to the highly sensitive nature of the feminine psyche towards issues of females being viewed as objects in Western societies. But then again, I imagine that there are probably plenty of women who watch and collect those shows because they have sweet stories and the characters are cute. I know I've bought cels on a purely visceral "Cuuuuute!!!!" reaction before.
Actually, before the other thread was moved to the Speakeasy, it was interesting to read everyone else's reactions to something that I had suspected for quite some time. Almost makes me want to get permission to view the Speakeasy. Almost.

I also appreciate all the nice comments you made, I'm really glad you like it! On the flip side, I've never known what gender you are (no offence) and putting it to the test and having a look at your collection and the style you've incorporated for your gallery, I would say your collection gives the impression that you are female… *hides*
You don't have to reveal your gender, so I guess only you will know whether I am right! (I hope I am, but apologies if I'm not!

On a different note, what is Speakeasy, I remember it being mentioned in a different thread.

You mean my site, which Guyvariii once described to me as "disgustingly girlie!"Ronin wrote: I've never known what gender you are (no offence) and putting it to the test and having a look at your collection and the style you've incorporated for your gallery, I would say your collection gives the impression that you are female… *hides*

Well, yeah...I don't put the little pink "ankh" (or my astrological sign

and stuff like Robo was soooo obvious!!!

But, as a hint, people call me Irmgaard in real life...
and I don't think too many guys would put up with that!!!
So you are correct, sir!
