OGM are Ogg Media files... tho I have not dealt with them myself, a quick google search turned up this little informative page:

http://abma.x-maru.org/faq/annotated/formats.avi.php

From what I understand, playing ogm files is very CPU intensive, which probably explains the freezing. You may need to convert to another format so your comp can handle it. Or try shutting down as many other apps as possible before playing them.

OGGs/OGMs annoyed me for a while since I couldn't get them to work either. They are fairly hefty because they encompass various langauge tracks and subtitles which can be switched, but I know they are used because the OGG video/audio compression/quality results are very good.

I could play them with Video Lan after DLing a couple of specific codecs. I can't remember them or their location off-hand, but I found links to them on a specialist forum where someone else had already asked. *does a web search*....

Yep, in 10 seconds I found the page you need for more info: http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/166p1.html

OGM files are similar to MKV files - they are containers for different audio and video streams. I don't know the difference between the 2 containers at the top of my head but MKV seems to be the more popular now a days. I think the audio streams in an OGM are encoded in the OGG format.

All of the above is of course correct.

However, it REALLY is an "OMG" file... as in "oh my god I can't get this stinkin' thing to play no matter WHICH player I try!! I thought I already HAD the right codec!" :splat

See ^, we're kind of on the same wavelength.
I read the title as "What is an OMG file?", and immediately thought...
Well, that's my file folder of Ichigo pictures! :P
You know, files that make you scream "OhmygodOhmygodOhmygod!", and do the little dance...?
Kind of like this picture. V

Hey Harry! You can use Windows Media Player Classic for playing those files.
