Whose watching the Olympics?
I was curious...who is watching the Olympics and which events are you watching?
I'm waiting for the figure skating, but have watched parts of the speed skating, luge, and snowboarding. The half-pipe snowboarding was great to watch. The men's short program was last night for figures skating. I really like the Canadian's program unfortuntely he fell and the reigning World Champion was flawless along with the Russian competitor.
Anyone else?
I think I heard American Idol is beating the Olympics in the ratings. That really makes me sad...but then again I don't watch reality TV anytime, so I'm not the best person to comment.

I've only caught bits and pieces... but yes that half-pipe was spectacular!
Perv, did I dectect just the teeniest bit of sarcasm about the curling?
Curling is the most bizarro fun!! Something about the strategy combined with the sheer luck of ice temperature and smoothness... We were lucky enough to get the CBC channel when we lived in Buffalo NY and I got thoroughly addicted to watching curling!
what I'm missing is the downhilling and so forth... things are just not timing themselves well for me this round

We had friends over the night of the opening ceremonies, and they talked me into turning on the tv to watch... and I've been hooked ever since. I usually have the olympics on in a couple of rooms so I can get food made and laundry folded while I watch. I have enjoyed watching the snowboarding and the speed skating and the figure skating, but I think my favorite so far is the downhill skiing. MAN that scares me just to watch them fly... and then they crash so spectacularly! YIKES! I think I make an audible gasp every time they fly over the big hill and then when they lose their footing sometimes around those turns. I can't imagine being their mom watching at the bottom of the hill there!! That one girl, day before yesterday, who literally flew off the side of the course and bounced about 10 times before stopping in a twisted painful position... made me pray my boys take up CHESS or something safe for a hobby!! ('Course, not many world-class skiiers come from OHIO. I think I'm safe. )

The Winter Olympics is superior to the 'regular' summer games IMO, I enjoy every sport that's competed in [the the figure skating ranks very low, heh].
Just been watching the snowboarding today and Britain got a silver in the woman's Skeleton ^__^. The Moguls yesterday were exciting [not the mongols]- the Finnish guy was placed first for so long until the final competitor came up and swiped gold away from him!
Wish I had more time to watch the games. In fact, why am I bothering to talk about it when I could be seeing the games right now?!

I LOVE the Olympics. The TV is on the Olympics the entire time I am home. And when I go to my grandmother's on Saturday, I'll make sure that the Olympics are on there the whole time as well.
As to what I've been watching... it's more like what I haven't been watching. Last weekend I caught all of the women's hockey that was running, cross country skiing, curling... and this week it's been the snowboarding, skiing, speedskating, and figure skating. I'm ready for the women's hockey championships, bobsled and skeleton sled.
And I'm with you, Krafty... I prefer the winter over the summer games any day!

So far, the attitudes of many of the athletes have not rubbed me the right way. Miller and Weir in particular are really poor sports. However, that skier that crashed on the downhill, Kildow, has guts. With a bruised hip and sore ribs, she is still competing and really wants to win a medal. That's what I want to see, people puting it all on the line to win medals for their country.
Time is but an illusion. Lunch time...doubly so.

The Olympics are about the only time I get to see hockey games at a serious level so I try to get a few games in.
Short track skating has also become a joy to watch because of the short burst of adrenaline and speed involved.

Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?
