My girls are both named after relatives, but it's wierd.
When I was pregnant with EJ we didn't know she was a she. I was asked whether we had picked out names.
"Yes. If she's a girl, she'll be Elizabeth Jean after her great grandmother and her grandmother. Except that her great grandmother's official name wasn't Elizabeth, it was Bessie. And her grandmother's name wasn't Jean, it was Helen (Jean was her middle name)."
After the shaking of heads I would get... "ok... how about if it's a boy?"
"If it's a boy it'll be Thomas Earle, after my father and Nate's father. Except my father's name isn't Thomas, it's Roger William."
About this time they'd be edging toward the phone, looking around for the nearest straightjacket, until I could explain that my dad really is Roger, but he was raised by a grandparent who called him "Tommy Tough Guy." And it stuck. NOBODY ever called him Roger, then or now. He finally had it legally added to his name.
Now... I was pressured to name EJ or Jen or both after anime characters by one Kymaera, and I have it on good authority that he did the same with his best college buddy as she progenied her two, uh, progeny. Let us all be thankful that he is not a fan of Bobobobobobobobob...o.
