Naming children after cartoon/anime characters, etc...

Post by Sugarflower »

I have no idea why but when I woke this morning I suddenly thought about one of my high school friends who was pregnate with her first child back in 1996. She asked me and my best friend to help her with baby names when my best friend suggested 'Cye' from the Ronin Warriors. After she gave birth we were surprised to find out that she actually did choose 'Cye' for the little boys middle name! We were surprised and happy about it. :D

Another instance I can remember is when I was very small my pregnate mother was trying to choose a name for my soon-to-be sister. She asked me if I could think of a name and I told her I wanted my sister to be named Raggedy Ann. At the time I had a Raggedy Ann doll that I took everywhere with me. Well, when my sister was born my mother named her Tiffany Sue Ann Bennett. Even to this day my mom tells me of how my sister got her middle name.

Does anyone have similar stories they wish to share?

My cousin joined the Marines. In boot camp everybody gets a nickname that then becomes their handle. (Handle means your name)

His last name is Brown, his first name is Eddie, with a middle initial of Z.

Right on his footlocker it said "BROWN.E.Z" So his handle to this day is Brownies. :D

Yes ... I have a story. My daughter is named Aya, after ...my favorite Weiss assassin.

OK, so it's not so much a story as a very short anecdote. :D

My girls are both named after relatives, but it's wierd.

When I was pregnant with EJ we didn't know she was a she. I was asked whether we had picked out names.

"Yes. If she's a girl, she'll be Elizabeth Jean after her great grandmother and her grandmother. Except that her great grandmother's official name wasn't Elizabeth, it was Bessie. And her grandmother's name wasn't Jean, it was Helen (Jean was her middle name)." :P

After the shaking of heads I would get... "ok... how about if it's a boy?"

"If it's a boy it'll be Thomas Earle, after my father and Nate's father. Except my father's name isn't Thomas, it's Roger William."

About this time they'd be edging toward the phone, looking around for the nearest straightjacket, until I could explain that my dad really is Roger, but he was raised by a grandparent who called him "Tommy Tough Guy." And it stuck. NOBODY ever called him Roger, then or now. He finally had it legally added to his name.

Now... I was pressured to name EJ or Jen or both after anime characters by one Kymaera, and I have it on good authority that he did the same with his best college buddy as she progenied her two, uh, progeny. Let us all be thankful that he is not a fan of Bobobobobobobobob...o.

Who said that I wasn't? :D

I don't have any stories yet. But check back if I ever have children. They're
going to hate me anyways, so might as well give them valid reasons.

If? :wack You're gonna have kids, and you're gonna spoil 'em rotten--but probably not rotten enough for your future daughter to ever forgive you for naming her Lime ('cuz Tiger would be just a little too strange :P )

Do 4-legged children count? You can practically track my interests over the years - first there were the astronomy/star names, then Star Trek (classic), then Next Gen, then Deep Space 9, a few other series, and now the bearded dragons are enduring the Japanese names. Well, except for Norbert, Puppy and Eddie. (Eddie Lizard - you know, the comedian...) -

But, Tex-chan - Yohji does answer to his name, and he's blonde (yellow)!

Alas, no 2-legged children to torture. (Which is a good thing, because during my prime bearing years - well, I don't think you'd get by without a frew bruises if you were named Spock - )
