PayPal.....>< *shakes fist*

Post by Okuni »

Has anyone else had this problem? (This the right board for the topic?)

Being the tired little louse I am, I decided to pay for my auctions before going to bed. So, I do the quick easy route through eBay, I hit "PAY" and immediately after realize that I didn't want to pay from my checking account! (not enough cash) So, then, the quick thinker that tired me is, I go and think "Well, maybe I can somehow cancel it with my credit card payment"

uh...No.
Now I'm double paying on the two auctions I won! (A very big thanks to the people I won the stuff from)

So, I call up PayPal since I figure they can do something about it. Do they? No. Can they? Not sure. Are the offices located in America?! That's just moot point, but probably not. The reply I received back from the operator with PayPal is this "You will need to contact the recipient for any refund and you will need to put the funds in your bank before PayPal removes the funds so you will not be charged for lack of funds."

NANI?!?!?!?!? excuse me a moment....I couldn't yell at her....
:kaioken :kaioken

WHY EVEN BOTHER HAVING A STUPID CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE IF YOU CAN'T HELP THEM AT ALL?!?
Why couldn't they just cancel they transaction? It's a mere simple thing! It hasn't even cleared with my bank yet! And for some reason, I feel if I asked to speak to a manager, he would have told me the same thing with an even heavier accent I wouldn't be able to understand him at all!
grar! :splat

Has anyone else here had any problems with PayPal? Is all I can possibly hope for is the kind sellers to refund that extra payment?
And I have no "extra funds" to cover the bank charges; I just paid my rent! And just as things were starting to go good again.

thanks for letting me rant.

They took money out of my bank account once....drained it the week before X-mas, when I selected the option to pay by CC for an item.

I called their CS, and they said too sad so bad...While I was in tears...With no money for X-mas presents.

What I did...

Called my bank immediately and filed a claim that I did NOT authorize them to tak the money out of my account. You would not believe how fast my money was returned and an investigation started.

Do that. And when a higher financial institution comes breathing down their neck...They'll take action.

Good luck.

Have you tried just asking the seller to refund your first payment, Okuni? I think that would be the easiest thing to do. Because of accidental double-payments, I have had to do this for a few bidders over the years... all it involves is one push of the Paypal "Refund" button! Write to your seller right away and say pleasepleaseplease! :)

Do you think I should try it?

I agree.
Your best bet would be to explain the situation to the seller and ask for a refund. If they value their customers there should not be a problem.

I don't think Paypal should be able to cancel or reverse payments just like that, simply because the sender of the money made a mistake and paid double.
It's not a glitch in the system, not did something go wrong, you just paid twice.

Agreed; if it would happen to me I would not be happy either, but I would be angry with myself for thinking two payments would cancel each other out, not with Paypal.

To tell you the truth, I would be more upset if they did reverse it just after receiving your call. That would be scary and would mean I could not be accepting payments with Paypal anymore if anyone could just call them and reverse the transaction saying they made a mistake.

That being said; I have to mention I do not really care much for the innuendo remarks about non-American employees in your initial post there...

Um... not to be a total marooon here, but I thought there was a way for you to cancel a Paypal transaction yourself. I know that I have done so... when a "donation" button I sent funds to never picked them up...

On the other hand they did put a freeze on the funds for about 10 days, so that wouldn't be very helpful to you if you need the $$ freed up right away. I know you wanted to put the transaction on your credit card, but it might be simpler to call THEM if the seller isn't really helpful.

As to their offices not being in the US -- it IS an international company, after all. :P Maybe you were suggesting the person didn't understand you very well? I've met many people from outside our illustrious country who not only speak English better than we do, but also speak several other languages fluently, as well. That's pretty much a rarity here, in the land where even our leader can't pronounce words like "nuclear" properly.

Sorry, I was just really, REALLY ticked at the moment I wrote that. I have nothing against other nationalities. My mother and my uncles all have had interracial marriages. But the CS rep could have phrased her answer better than "I can't help you."
But, I'm sorry if I unintentionally threw in some racial innuendo; I was tired and ticked off, not a good combo.
Yes, the incident's somewhat my fault but who hasn't had a time when they didn't do something dumb and needed some good advice? I just figured PayPal would give better advice than that. :(

Anyways!
I did write the sellers before posting here, but have yet to hear from them. As for cancelling the payments on my end, I don't think that's possible.
Again, I must say, what's the point of CS when you cannot offer any advice but "contact someone else"? That's just poor service. And I can't block PayPal from my bank account because I use them all the time. Hopefully, everything will turn out fine; the sellers get their money and my bank not charge me an arm on overcharges.

Thanks guys.

(Sorry if I ticked anyone off, seriously.)

All I'm gonna say is I hate paypal. They are never customer friendly, heard too many horror stories, and they are not FDIC insured. :(

That is a rather sweeping generalization about I am gonna say is I hate paypal.

It is, Cloud, but sometimes generalizations are pretty accurate :P

I kinda figured it was a "tired and grumpy" comment myself, having made more than my share. (When people ask me "how can you walk with both feet in your mouth," I'm pretty sure I've done it again :P )
