Calling all computer gurus... Help!

Post by Remi »

So, after a month of being computerless since my hard-drive went kaput, I am finally back online at home. However I lost all my programs and codecs and don't remember what anything was.

First of all, I am totally lacking all those wonderful codec things or mastorka pack or whatever that let windows media player play my downloaded anime. Does anyone know where I can find that stuff and get it back? I also had a different player for ogm files, but I don't remember what it was. If anyone knows of a good one, please let me know.

Second, I had a great screencapping program. I have no idea what the name was but I would recognize it in a heartbeat if I heard/read it. Anyone know of any that might be one I'm looking for?

If anyone out there can help me get up to speed with the above, I'd really appreciate it. I have other issues... like the fact that I don't have the cd with the dribers for my scanner yet or have any what happened to my paint shop pro software, but for now if I can download and watch stuff I'll be happy.

Thanks for any and all help,
Remi ^_^

I would try google or yahoo searching for keywords like "screencap" or "ogm player" You might see the name there. That's my best advice. :)

When I had problems with needing codecs I had to google search. Also, here is a site that may help you.

http://www.videohelp.com/tools

I've used it to track down various codecs, video editing programs, guides, etc. from it.

Just use the Holy VLC Player. It plays .ogm s right off the bat and I haven't had to DL any extra codecs yet.

Can't help you with the screencap thingy though :(

I totally forgot to mention what I use to get my screencaps. :P
I use BS Player all the time to get them for my cels.
http://www.bsplayer.org/
PowerDVD and Irfanview can also take screencaps from videos.

I hope you find your original program if you do not choose to use one of these.

Hmmm the only screencapping app that comes to mind immediately is one called "SnatchIt" I think....
