I'll be leaving for vacation earlier than planned...

Post by Sugarflower »

I received a call early this morning that my ailing great grandmother passed away in the middle of the night. I'm extremely upset about this. She helped raise me and my siblings and was like a second mother to us. :l

Why couldn't she have held on for just two more weeks when my vacation started and I was able to see her again. The last time I saw her was almost 2 years ago, right before we moved to NJ. She said she would probably never see me again... I guess she was right. :l I'm sorry I sound so selfish right now.

We made arrangements and changed our plans today to leave on Thursday. However, my mom just called to say the funeral will be on Thursday now so it looks like I may miss her funeral.

So, I'll be leaving Wednesday night or Thurday morning and should return around May 24.

I'm SO sorry Sugar! :ghug: I never really know what to say since I know nothing can make you feel better, but I'm sure your grandmother understood and loved you no matter what. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can make the funeral!

Sugar, I'm terribly sorry to hear this! :(

I had a similar situation happen with my maternal grandmother. She knew
she was going to pass soon, she just knew. We didn't get to see each other
during that time, but we had wonderful memories of previous visits. It's
best to remember those good times and experiences. You loved her and
she loved you. Those unspoken feelings are mutually understood. I'm
sure she had a wonderful life and is very proud of you.

You have us to support you, if you feel like talking, we're here :friends:

I'm deeply sorry for your loss. It will be tough, but it does eventually get easier. :O

Thank you for the kind words everyone. :ghug: It's been one hell of a stressfull day around here. We've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off as we request the change for getting the rental car earlier, decide what to pack, make numerous phone calls with the family all day, etc.

I think we have decided to leave late on Wednesday night and will be traveling thoughout the night in hopes to arrive to my families home by early Thurday morning. We should be able to make it just in time to get a little rest before the funeral.

I should have internet access where I'll be staying so I'm hoping to drop by BETA whenever I can and check my email.

I'm glad my gran isn't suffering anymore and that she can now be with my grandpa who passed away about 20 years ago. I want to get a vase of daffodils for her funeral since I always remember picking those for her from her flower garden each spring.

Thanks again for cheering me up everyone. You helped me destress from the madness today. :)

I'm sorry for your loss, Sugar. :bawl Image

Hope you have a safe drive there and back and everything goes well (as well as it can go at least). Getting her a vase of daffodils is a very sweet thought. Sounds like something your gran would really love and appreciate.
